Jennifer Aniston is teasing some kind of mystery project involving the rest of herFriendsco-stars, teasing a movie she’s working on along with the other actors. While Aniston has found great success on both the big and small screens, fans ofFriendswill still always remember her most fondly from the classic sitcom. After debuting on Instagram earlier this month with a cast reunion photo, Aniston quickly topped a million followers, showing just how popular the comedy series remains to this day. When pressed onThe Ellen Showif aFriendsreboot or TV series revival was in the cards, Aniston said there would be no reboot of the show, but teased something else involving the same cast by telling Ellen this:
“Listen we would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is. So, we’re just trying. We’re working on something… A huge, huge, huge, movie… No, we don’t know. I don’t want to lead people on.”
Previously this month, Aniston was directly asked by Howard Stern about her thoughts onFriendscoming back in some kind of reboot or revival series. Much to the detriment of some fans,Jennifer Anistondid not seem very keen on the idea, suggesting no new version of the show could ever be as good and would only “ruin” the magic of the original. Still, all six former cast members of the show clearly remain very close, and even if they’re not going to revive theirFriendscharacters, it would be fun to see them all back together again in a new kind of project. Unfortunately, Aniston isn’t giving us very much to work with here, so all we can do for now is speculate over what this top-secret project with theFriendscast might be.

Aniston was featured as part of the ensemble cast by playing the role ofRachel Green, joined by Courteney Cox as Monica Geller, Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe Buffay, Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani, Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing, and David Schwimmer as Ross Geller. The simple premise of the comedy series follows a group of six friends in the 20s and 30s living in Manhattan. During its run the show had established itself as one of the most popular sitcoms of all time, racking up 62 Primetime Emmy Award nominations in the process. The series originally ran from 1994 to 2004, spanning 236 episodes across ten seasons.
It’s easy to point to the ill-fated spin-offJoeyas a warning not to move forward with aFriendsrevival series. Certainly, it would help bringing all six characters back rather than focusing on just one, but maybe by 2004, the franchise had simply run its course. Still, even a one-off movie or reunion special with all of the characters getting back together one more time would be very interesting, and there’s no doubt millions of people would be tuning in to see it. Perhaps Aniston could be vaguely referring to aFriendsreunion movie, as that technically wouldn’t be a reboot of the series. Given Aniston’s comments about a revival, however, we probably shouldn’t hold our breath.
Even ifFriendsnever gets another follow-up, either as a reboot series or for a reunion movie, the series remains more popular than most of the new shows currently airing on television. Better yet, streaming services will keepFriendsthis way for many years to come, as people aren’t going to stop watching the classic series anytime soon.
