Back in October, we reported that Oscar-winning actressSandra Bullockis coming aboard to lead an all-female cast in Warner Bros.' reboot ofOcean’s Eleven, withGary Ross(The Hunger Games) set to direct. We haven’t heard any updates on this project since then, but today we have word that one of the biggest stars in the world may join the cast. A new report claims thatJennifer Lawrenceis being eyed for a role in this new project, with early negotiations currently under way.
The news comes fromThe Tracking Board, which also sheds some light on the story. Our original report revealed that this reboot actually originated fromOcean’s ElevenstarGeorge Clooney, directorSteven Soderberghand producerJerry Weintraub, who brought onOlivia Milch(Queen and Country) to write the script. While it wasn’t known at the time if there would be any connection toOcean’s Elevenor its subsequent sequels, this report claims thatSandra Bullockwill be playing an ex-con who is the sister ofGeorge Clooney’s Danny Ocean.
The report also claims thatSandra Bullock’s character will assemble ateam of thievesto steal a coveted necklace from the Met Ball, while framing a gallery owner for the crime. IfJennifer Lawrencedoes in fact sign on, she will play the right-hand woman toSandra Bullock’s character. It isn’t known ifOlivia Milch’s script will include a cameo appearance forGeorge Clooneyas Danny Ocean, or any of the otherOcean’s Elevenstars likeBrad PittandJulia Roberts, so we’ll have to wait and see.
Production isn’t expected to begin until next fall, but the producers are hoping to secure their biggest cast members early on. It isn’t known if Warner Bros. has officially given the green light for this project, or if they have set a release date at this time.Jennifer Lawrencewill next be seen in the highly-anticipatedX-Men: Apocalypse, arriving in theaters May 27, and she also stars in the upcoming sci-fi thrillerPassengers, which is set for release in December. She is also developing a comedy withAmy Schumer, with both actresses set to star.
This project is just the latest high-profile studio movie to feature an all-female cast. Sony will release theirGhostbustersreboot this summer, starringKristen Wiig,Melissa McCarthy,Kate McKinnonandLeslie Jones. Lionsgate is also developing an all-female version ofThe Expendables, but it isn’t known when that project will move forward. Stay tuned for more on theOcean’s Elevenreboot as more details surface.
