Universal’s plans for a legacy sequel toI Know What You Did Last Summerseem to be progressing nicely according to starJennifer Love Hewitt, who says there have been “preliminary phone calls” regarding her return to the franchise. Hewitt starred as Julie James in the originalI Know What You Did Last Summer, which was released in 1997, and reprised the role again in 1998 for the sequel,I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. The legacy sequelwill be the fourth film in the franchise thus far, following the straight-to-DVD release in 2006,I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.

Speaking withETabout her return to the role that helped catapult her to superstardom, Hewitt said she’s “honestly terrified” about reprising the part of Julie James. Whilethings don’t seem to be set in stonejust yet regarding her return, she comments that if everything does fall into place,she isn’t sure how she’s going to feel. Check out her comments below.

Still, even with those nervous feelings, the 45-year-old actress whohas been active since 1989is approaching things in a different light this time around thanksto having a few more years of experience under her belt. She says she’s “excited” to introduce audiences to a Julie James that is “grown up.”

“I think there’s power in being older. There’s power in having gone off and had three kids. There’s a sense of, like, I can do anything now. The vulnerability that was Julie James in one and two definitely doesn’t exist in this one.I’m excited to just show her grown up.”

While there’sno official word yeton whether Jennifer Love Hewitt or Freddie Prinze Jr. have signed on to reprise their respective roles of Julie James and Ray Bronson, Universal has slated the legacy sequelfor a release date of August 23, 2025, which is a promising sign. The filmwill be directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who’s best known for co-writingThor: Love and Thunder, and helming the black comedy,Do Revenge. It’s unclear at this point if she will also have a hand in penning the script, or if those duties will go to someone else.
