Fans of the 2006 cult teen comedyJohn Tucker Must Diewere thrilled when several original cast members teased that there was a script for a sequel and that it was in early development. News since that announcement has been scarce, and it appears that’s also the case with two other stars from the first film,Penn BadgleyandBrittany Snow, with the duo revealing they haven’t received a call about the sequel.

Snow recently appeared on Badgley’sPodcrushedpodcast and the two brought up the possibility of returning for a sequel. The pair played Kate Spencer and Scott Tucker, respectively, in the first film and they revealed neither of them have been notified about the sequel or if they will appear in it. Badgley followed up by saying,“Yeah, I’ve had no call. I mean, it’s maybe possible like the superposition of quantum physics, like everything is potentially within the realm of, like, maybe this apple will fall up, I can’t actually say with certainty.”

John Tucker Must Die

Both actors played key roles in the first movie. Snow’s Kate Spencer is the one who discovers that John Tucker (Jesse Metcalfe) dates three beautiful girls from different cliques in high school so that they never learn about each other. Once the three girls learn of John’s deception, they enlist Kate to help them get retribution against him for his playboy ways. Badgley played John’s brother, Scott Tucker, a much nicer version of his sleazy sibling. By the end, it’s hinted that Scott and Kate begin dating once the truth behind the revenge plot is revealed.

We look at a plethora of teen movies, and how they often get in their own way.

News of a potential sequel dropped when stars Metcalfe, Arielle Kebbel and Sophia Bush attended Epic Con in Chicago back in May to celebrate the film’s 18th anniversary. During the panel, Metcalfeteased that he had heard about the scriptand expressed wanting to be a part of it. This was then further confirmed by Kebbel, who admitted that she would also be producing the follow-up.

“The rumor is true. I started producing a few years ago. There is a script. We are very proud of it. It does involve all of the OG cast.”

Given the fact that Kebbel says it involves all the OG cast, Snow and Badgely may still be involved, but it could still be too early in development for them to get a call. Whatever the case, the fanbase for the original film, which grossed $68.8 million on a modest $18 million budget, would likely love to see every significant player return to discover if John Tucker has changed his wicked ways.
