Just weeks after winning his first Emmy Award for the final season ofMad Men,Jon Hammhas signed on to star in writer-directorEdgar Wright’s new action-comedyBaby Driver.Varietyreports thatJamie Foxxhas also joined the cast, which includesAnsel ElgortandLily James. No details were given forJon HammandJamie Foxx’s characters at this time.

The story centers on a young getaway driver, dubbed “Baby” due to his boyish looks, who uses his own “personal soundtrack” as he strives to become the best in this illicit business. His life is turned upside down when he’s coerced into working for a mafia boss, and, after a heist goes bad, he is forced to go on the run, putting his life on the line. The story is partially inspired by themusic videoforMint Royale’sBlue Song.Edgar Wrightdirected the video in 2003, one year before his breakout hitShaun of the Deadhit theaters.

Edgar Wrightis directing from his own screenplay, with Working Title’s Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan producing along with Nira Park through her Big Talk Productions. Nira Park has produced all ofEdgar Wright’s feature films,Shaun of the Dead,Hot Fuzz,Scott Pilgrim Vs. the WorldandThe World’s End. She also served as an executive producer on the cult classic TV seriesSpacedalongsideEdgar WrightandSimon Pegg.

Jon Hammmost recently lent his voice to the animated blockbusterMinions, which has taken in over $1 billion at thebox officeworldwide. He will next be seen inKeeping Up with the JonesesalongsideGal GadotandZach Galifianakis, and he recently signed on to star inHigh Wire Actfor directorBrad Anderson(Stonehearst Asylum). He has also been attached toThe Incredible Mr. Limpet, but we haven’t heard anything about that project since directorRichard Linklaterbacked out last August.

DirectorEdgar Wrightis expected to start production sometime next year, with Working Title Films already setting a March 17, 2017release date, where it will be going up against Disney’s live-actionBeauty and the Beastadaptation.Baby Driverhas been in development since 2008, but now it seems that this long-gestating project is finally moving forward.
