Jon Hamm’s new showYour Friends & NeighborsonApple TV+getting early renewal for season two before season one has even come out bodes well for the studio’s confidence in theMad Menstar’s salacious drama. Show creator Jonathan Tropper, who is also showrunning Apple TV+’s sci-fi dramaSee, has an overall deal with the studio and spoke toDeadlineabout the new series:
“I’ve had this show in my head for years, and making it has been a dream come true. It’s been an absolute thrill partnering with Hamm, along with Connie Tavel and Craig Gillespie, to bring it to life. The support from everyone at Apple has been phenomenal, and the fact that they’ve ordered a second season before we aired our first is an incredible validation and a tribute to the work of this stellar cast, as well as the crew, writers, directors and producers who worked so hard to make this show what it is. We can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
The drama centers around Jon Hamm’s character Andrew “Coop” Cooper, making this the first time he’s led a series since his Emmy-winning turn onMad Men. After being fired in disgrace and reeling from a recent divorce, “Coop” begins a life of crime stealing from the homes of his neighbors in the extremely wealthy Westmont Village community. But his illicit ingresses reveal a dangerous world of secrets and affairs behind the affluent facades.

When the tech giant entered the streaming marketplace in 2019, it seemed like a company bringing a smartphone to a gun fight. But 5 years later, the Mac maker also producing entertainment is something30 Rock’s Jack Donaghy would have praised as perfect “product integration.” Having all the products related, or as some bloodless marketing ghouls would call it, an “ecosystem” proved to be a winning strategy - Apple makes the show, the device it plays on, and the phone the viewer looks at instead of the TV. And while Apple didn’t have the back catalog that Warner and Disney had,they brought a novel concept: strong original programming.
