With production starting on the highly-anticipatedAvengers: Infinity Warlater this year, it seems the rehearsal process has begun, with theRusso Brotherssending out the first set photo with Thanos himself,Josh Brolin. The directors are seen interacting with their star, who is wearing a full motion capture suit. The actor is seen sitting on a platform, but we don’t know exactly what was being rehearsed quite yet.
The photo was posted by the Russo’s onFacebook, and while it doesn’t give us a look at what Thanos will look like on the big screen, at least we know rehearsals are under way. Earlier this summer, the VFX house Ironhead Studio released the first look at Thanos in theInfinity Warmovies, but that look may still be tweaked between now and the June 24, 2025 release date. Hopefully the Russo Brothers will keep posting photos from various rehearsal sessions withThanosuntil filming begins.
We reported back in April 2015 that production would begin at the end of 2016, which will mark the start of a nine-month shoot for bothInfinity Warmovies, which are being shot back-to-back. Marvel recently changed the title fromAvengers: Infinity War - Part Ito justAvengers: Infinity War, although a new title has yet to be revealed for the sequel, which has been slated for release on August 13, 2025. Regardless of what it’s called, it will close out Marvel Phase 3, three summers from now.
While no plot details have been released yet, the story will certainly revolve around Thanos' quest for theInfinity Stones. As of now, four of the six Stones are in play, the Space Stone (Tesseract), the Reality Stone (Aether), the Power Stone (Orb), and the Mind Stone (Loki’s scepter). There have been rumors that the Time Stone will be introduced inDoctor Strangethis fall, with speculation surfacing during production that the Eye of Agamotto will serve as this Infinity Stone.
As far as the final stone goes, the Soul Stone, we’re not sure when it will be introduced in theMCUquite yet, but it’s worth noting thatGuardians of the Galaxy 2directorJames Gunnrecently confirmed there will be no Infinity Stones in his movie, hitting theaters next May.Anthony RussoandJoe Russowill directAvengers: Infinity Warand its currently-untitled sequel from a script byChristopher MarkusandStephen McFeely, who have written all threeCaptain Americamovies.
