It’s no secret thatKeanu Reeveshas met with Marvel Studios on several past occasions about possibly starring in one of their upcoming MCU movies. There was heavy speculation that he could take on the starring role in the Disney+Moon Knightseries. In recent weeks, Daniel Radcliffe has been rumored for that role. So now the speculation turns toX-Men, with some believing Keanu Reeves might play a pretty good villain. Specifically Mr. Sinister.
Fan Artist Boss Logic has given us a good idea of what Keanu Reeves might look like as a bearded Mr. Sinister in Marvel’s upcomingX-Menmovie, which will bring Mutants into the MCU for the first time. With Marvel Phase 4 completely announced, it is believed that this nextX-Menmovie will be one of the cornerstones of Marvel Phase 5, though Marvel boss Kevin Feige has been reluctant to let too much information out just yet.
We do know that Marvel and Disney will be finding a new actor to playWolverine. Keanu Reeves was mentioned for this role, but it’s believed that the actor may be too old to take on the role at this time, simply due to the fact that the character will appear in a number of MCU projects over the next decade.
Mister Sinister is a genetically-altered human with superhuman physical and mental abilities. The character is telepathic, able to manipulate the minds of others in various ways, and is capable of energy projection through telekinesis. And he could be perfect for Keanu Reeves.
Mister Sinister was hinted at inX-Men: Apocalypse. It was expected that the character would make his on-screen debut inLogan, but that didn’t happen. The character was later referenced inDeadpool 2. Mister Sinister did appear in X-Men: The Animated Series as well as the Wolverine and the X-Men animated series. Thus far, he hasn’t gotten to feature in a big screen live-action movie. But that could all change.
As for Keanu Reeves, he has a big 2020 in front of him. He will be shootingThe Matrix 4andJohn Wick 4almost back-to-back, though it isn’t officially noted which movie will go into production first. The actor is currentlyin training for both movies. They will be released on the same date,August 18, 2025. As of this writing, neither Warner Bros., who is behind The Matrix franchise, nor Lionsgate, the company responsible for John Wick, have agreed to budge and move their Keanu movie away from the other.
At this time, we don’t know whenX-Menwill return to the big screen, but it needs a break afterDark Phoenixbombed in theaters earlier this year. It won’t be until 2024 at the latest. At that time we’ll get to see if Keanu Reeves joins the team or not. Until then, we haveBossLogic on Twittergiving us tiny tastes of what this may ultimately look like.
