There will be SPOILERS forKingsman: The Secret Servicebelow, so if you haven’t seen the movie yet, read on at your own risk. Although it opened on the same weekend as box office juggernautFifty Shades of Grey, 20th Century Fox’s action-thrillerKingsman: The Secret Servicestill held its own, pulling in $128.2 million domestic and $412.1 million worldwide during its impressive theatrical run. The studio gave the green light for a follow-up,Kingsman 2, back in April, with directorMatthew Vaughnand writerJane Goldmancurrently working on thesequel script.

While discussing the sequel with IGN,Mark Millar, who created the comic book the adaptation is based on, revealed that the filmmakers are trying to find a way to bringColin Firthback as Harry Hart. Of course, Harry died in a memorable scene towards the end ofKingsman: The Secret Service, but that still isn’t stopping the filmmakers from trying to find a way to bring him back. Here’s whatMark Millarhad to say about the possibility ofColin Firth’s return.

“That’s the conversation everyone’s having right now, because part of what made that movie work is Colin. Colin’s fantastic, it was a two-hander, that film. You also want to have the integrity of the story, so if you are bringing him back, it has to make sense. That’s where it is at at the moment. Beats of the story have been done. [Screenplay co-writers]Matthew [Vaughn]and Jane [Goldman] are working on it at the moment. Some things have to be worked out, some decisions have still to be made and everything, so it’s all fairly amorphous, but all going well.”

Just afterKingsman: The Secret Serviceopened in theaters this February,Matthew Vaughnteased that he was trying to figure out a way to bringColin Firth’s Harry Hart back for the follow-up. Even if they do come up with a way to resurrect this character, the director said that this new story will still center onTaron Egerton’s Eggsy and how he turns into the, “modern-day gentleman spy.“Mark Millarteased that a final decision still hasn’t been made onColin Firth’s involvement, but they do have a plan in place.

“It’s funny because there’s a lot of conversations like that, like should he have an evil brother, Colin with a mustache? Or is he a ghost or whatever? The guys have a plan. I can’t spoil it just now because the final decision is still to be made. It’ll be good.Vaughn’s funny. He’s doneLayer Cake,Stardust,Kick-Ass,X-Men: First Class, andKingsman. EvenSteven Spielberghad made 1941 by his third movie, so I trust him. He’s done five good movies.”

It isn’t known if starsSofia Boutella, Sophie Cookson,Mark StrongandMichael Cainewill be back for the sequel either, but we’ll keep you posted as soon as more updates come in. Do you think thatKingsman 2should bringColin Firth’s Harry Hart back? Or would you rather seeTaron Egerton’s Eggsy strike out into the spy world on his own?
