Kit Haringtonrecently addressed the widespread speculation about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Harington debuted his character, Dane Whitman, in the 2021 Marvel film,Eternals. The English actor, known for his role as Jon Snow in the blockbuster series,Game of Thrones, dismissed rumors of Whitman, also known as the Black Knight, appearing in the forthcomingBlademovie.
Whitman, Harington’s character, was introduced inEternalsas the romantic lead for Sersi, played by Gemma Chan. Whitman, or the Black Knight, was thrust into the limelight during an intriguing post-credits scene. Here, Whitman was depicted unveiling a shadowy sword, indicating his transformation towards becoming the Black Knight.

This scene featured a disembodied voice, later confirmed to be Mahershala Ali’s, questioning Whitman’s preparedness. This moment of narrative suspense led fans to speculate about Whitman’s appearance in the 2025Bladefilm. However, during a Superhero Comic-Con and Car Show panel in San Antonio, Texas, Harington laid these rumors to rest. He clarified that he was never meant to appear in theBlademovie, putting an end to the swirling speculations.
“The honest answer is I think that’s the intention with the character. I think there was some misunderstanding about whether he was going to be in the ‘Blade’ movie. He was never meant to be in the Blade movie and isn’t.”
Harington further elaborated on his character’s intriguing aspects, expressing his interest in exploring the mental health and addiction facets inherent in Whitman’s portrayal. While eager to reprise his role, the actor also made it clear that at present, he could not divulge further details:
“At this stage, I don’t know. At this stage, I hope he gets used. I know there’s some really fascinating parts of that character which would be beneficial to delve into and interesting, which is the aspects around his mental health things and specifically about addiction with that character which I think is really interesting. So I hope they use him. I hope that the Black Knight comes along. I hope that Dane Whitman is that character but, at this stage, I can’t tell you anything. But I think the intention is to develop him at some point.”

Where Could Kit Harington’s Black Knight Reappear?
With Whitman’s participation in theBladefilm ruled out, the speculation now shifts to where Harington’s character might reappear in the MCU. Numerous possibilities abound for Whitman’s return, with a potential appearance inEternals 2, contingent on Marvel approving a sequel to Chloe Zhao’s film.
Moreover, a cameo inMoon Knightwas at one point considered due to Whitman’s profession as a museum worker. While this didn’t materialize, the possibility of aMoon KnightSeason 2 provides another potential platform for Harington’s Black Knight to manifest.
Harington, despite his enthusiasm for reprising the role and assuming the Black Knight’s mantle, acknowledged the scarcity of information available since he last addressed the issue.
