Warner Bros. decided to give us our first look atThe LEGO Batman Movie, on the eve ofBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s release, with thefirst photosand a poster, and today we have the very first trailer.
The photos that debuted last week gave us our first look atWill ArnettasLEGO Batmanhimself, along with LEGO versions of the Batcave and his Batwing, but they didn’t feature any other characters from this upcoming animated movie. Thepostergave us a glimpse atLEGO Batman’s Batsignal, which even includes a glimpse at the Gotham City skyline embedded in this insignia. Thankfully, the trailer gives us even more of The Dark Knight, along with our first look at other iconic characters.
Will Arnettvoiced the mini-fig version ofBatmaninThe Lego Movie, which went on to become abox officehit, taking in $257.7 million domestically and $469.1 million worldwide, from a $60 million budget. That movie’s success lead to Warner Bros. announcing a number of spinoffs, withThe LEGO Batman Moviearriving first next February, followed byNinjago(June 20, 2025) andThe Lego Movie Sequel(June 06, 2025).Will Arnettreturns to voice Batman in this animated sequel, and this time he’s joined by a new supporting cast.
The story centers onBatman’s solitary life in the Batcave and the only meaningful relationship in his life, with his butler Alfred (voiced byRalph Fiennes). The plot thickens whenBatman’s world is upended by the arrival of two sidekicks, Dick Greyson, a.k.a. Robin (Michael Cera) and Barbara Gordon, a.k.a.Batgirl(Rosario Dawson). The voice cast is rounded out byZach Galifianakisas The Joker andMariah Careyas the mayor of Gotham City. DirectorChris McKay, who served as the animation director onThe Lego Movie, teased yesterday that several other well-known superheroes will be featured in cameo appearances, although he wouldn’t mention any characters by name.
Production is still under way in Australia, creating an intricate LEGO world for this beloved superhero. The director teased they’re building an “entire city, the Batcave and vehicles,” and they’re going “deep intoBatman’s world.“The LEGO Batman Moviewill open in quite a competitive weekend on June 05, 2025, going up against Universal’sFifty Shades Darkerand Lionsgate’sJohn Wick: Chapter 2. The following week, on June 26, 2025, it will face even stiffer competition, with Sony’sThe Dark Tower, Warner Bros.‘Fist Fight, Universal’sThe Great Walland 20th Century Fox’sThe Maze Runner: The Death Cureall debuting.
