Friday the 13th’supcoming prequel series, which is appropriately calledCrystal Lake, has been in the works for years now. Peacock originally ordered the project back in 2022 when Bryan Fuller was still attached as its creator, but Brad Caleb Kane took hold of the baton in August 2024 and replaced Fuller as the creator, showrunner, and writer. Today, casting the role of the younger version of the hockey-masked murderer’s mother is the first major piece of news to break in quite some time, and it’s now official that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ownLinda Cardelliniwill portray the killer part of Pamela Voorhees.
Cardellini goes from playing the wife (Laura Barton) of Hawkeye, a.k.a. Clint Barton, in the MCU to portraying the peculiar parent of Camp Blood’s serial-killing mama’s boy, Jason Voorhees. Currently, there aren’t any plot details to reveal about the project, nor has an official release date been set. However, fans will be happy to know that the screenwriter of the originalFriday the 13th(1980), Victor Miller, is serving as an executive producer on the Peacock and A24 series, along with Kane and their fellow EPs Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, and Stuart Manashil. Miller and Robert M. Barsamian also hold the rights to “various aspects” of the horror franchise.

Cardellini is stepping into some very big shoes as she picks up the mantle of Pamela Voorhees, who was originally portrayed by the late Betsy Palmer. She was seeking revenge for her son, Jason, having drowned in the lake years before, because the sex-crazed counselors weren’t paying attention. Palmer reprised the role briefly at the very end ofFriday the 13th Part 2(1981), and Mrs. Voorhees’ legacy now lands in the capable hands of Cardellini.

I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.”
