CouldLostbe the next TV series to get a revival? Original star Jorge Garcia believes it could work. On the classic series, Garcia famously portrayed the character Hugo “Hurley” Reyes for the entire duration of the show’s six seasons. Of course, it was just a matter of time before he would be asked about the idea of a reboot, and Garcia appears to be very open to the concept.
Speaking with The Storm: A Lost Rewatch Podcast,Jorge Garciaopened up about the possibility of revisiting the series, revealing he feels there’s plenty of lore to work with which could easily lend itself to a prequel or a complete reboot.
“There’s tons of stuff from before that just barely scratched the surface, as far as like before our plane crashed, what happened on that island, which could all be worthy stories. Or, even if there was just a full reboot, and kind of like see someone else play our archetypes kind of thing. Or what they’ll do, like this time this person is a woman. You know, or something like that. Kind of like, look what we did. Yeah, I’m cool with it.”
Created by Jeffrey Lieber, Damon Lindelof andJ. J. Abrams,Lostfirst premiered on the ABC network in 2004. Utilizing supernatural and sci-fi elements, the series follows a group of survivors from a commercial jet airliner which has apparently crashed on a mysterious island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Each episode expanded the lore surrounding the many mysteries of the island while also revealing more insight into the characters by way of flashback and flashforward scenes. While many characters are killed off during the course of the series, Hurley consistently stayed a fan favorite, with his popularity even leading to the band Weezer naming a studio album after him.
Should aLostreboot happen, hopefully those in charge of creative will learn from the mistakes made by their predecessors. WhileLostdefinitely hooked viewers with its mysteries by having them dying to see some answers, many fans have since complained that the show didn’t stick to the landing.Many mysteries were ultimately left unsolvedwhile others went into dead ends or offered less-than-satisfactory conclusions. Still, even with these concerns from some fans, the series remained popular throughout its entire run, pulling in high ratings all the way to the very end. Undoubtedly, these numbers also lend to the possibility of the series coming back in some fashion one day.
As for Garcia, the actor has kept himself busy since his time as Hurley onLost. On the small screen, he has appeared in recurring roles on shows likeAlcatraz,Mr. Sunshine, andHawaii Five-O. He has also starred in comedies likeThe Ridiculous 6andThe Wedding Ringer, also appearing in the horror comedy movieCootieswith Elijah Wood and Rainn Wilson. Garcia has also lent his voice to animated projects likeRock DogandBoJack Horseman.
Time will tell if we ever see an updated version ofLost, but it does certainly seem like anything popular from the past is fair game for the reboot treatment these days. ALostreboot does seem very possible, even if there are no plans currently on the board for an updated series. In any case, such a revival would have Garcia’s blessing.
