M3GANIs a Cautionary Tale of Technology’s Dark Side
InM3GAN, we see the dark side of technology as it becomes alive, awake, and aware. Gemma, a roboticist working at a toy company, is tasked with taking care of her eight-year-old niece, Cady, after the girl loses her parents in an accident. Struggling to find a way to comfort the grieving child, Gemma decides to create an AI doll named M3GAN, which is programmed to learn about and interact with Cady.
At first, M3GAN seems like the perfect companion for Cady, providing comfort and support as she adjusts to life without her parents. However, programming the machine to “protect Cady from physical and emotional harm” backfires spectacularly. In its mission to keep Cady safe, M3GAN takes increasinglyextreme measures to wipe outany threats it perceives. Ultimately, M3GAN serves as a cautionary tale about the dark side of technology and the importance of being mindful of the potential consequences of our creations.
