Zeke Sims (first photo) can be seen throughout the trailer both as himself in the present and the future. There are also several shots like the one above, which reveals Madame Web’s future-seeing foe draped in a Spider-Man-esque costume. In the comic books, Zeke is a relatively new character who first appeared inAmazing Spider-Man(Vol. 2) No. 30 back in 2001.

Also pictured above (2nd photo) is the film’s titular protagonist, Madame Web, aka Cassandra Webb, who is trying desperately throughout the first trailer to protect three women from Zeke. Zeke warns the “Creepy Clairvoyant” about the girls' future:

You have no idea what those girls become.

But the fans know! Cassandra first appeared inAmazing Spider-Man(Vol. 1) No. 210 in 1980. While Cassandra and Zeke seem destined for an epic showdown at the conclusion ofMadame Web, a number of other Spider-Man-related characters also play a huge part in the upcoming Sony cinematic venture.

Madame Web: Release Date, Plot, Cast and Everything Else We Know

The threads shrouding the upcoming Madame Web film’s details are starting to unfurl, and here’s the detailing of each.

Madame Web’s Very Own Spider-Society

Naturally, hardcore fans of the source material have picked aparttheMadame Webtrailerand pointed out some of the obvious differences between the comic books and what appears in the new footage. The most glaring deviation happens with the film’s main character, Cassandra Webb: Cassandra is not blind like she is in the comics! And Zeke (Rahim) was a clear ally of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man in the source material. In the new film, though, Zeke is determined to prevent Julia Carpenter, Anya Corazón and Mattie Franklin from becoming their Spider-Man-esque alter egos.

The third of the screenshots (above) revealsSydney Sweeney making her debut as Spider-Woman, aka Julia Carpenter. In the comic books, Carpenter’s character first appears (in shadow) during the limited series,Marvel Super HeroesSecret WarsNo. 6 (1984). While it’s clear theMadame Webmovie is making drastic changes where the source material is concerned, in the comics Carpenter has the distinction of becoming both the second Spider-Woman and the second Madame Web… among other aliases like Arachne.

The fourth screenshot is that of actress Isabela Merced’s Aña “Anya” Corazón dressed as her alter ego, Spider-Girl. Corazón, like Zeke, was a character who didn’t appear until later in the Spider-Man mythology. Corazón initially shows up in 2004’sAmazing FantasyNo. 1, and she later becomes Spider-Girl inYoung AlliesNo. 5 (2010).

And last, but certainly not least, is the fifth screenshot. The image is that of Martha “Mattie” Franklin. And Mattie is portrayed by actress Celeste O’Connor. Mattie’s alter ego is also known as the third Spider-Woman. One thing that sets Mattie apart is that she is the niece of the one and only J. Jonah Jameson. Mattie first shows up in the pages ofSpectacular Spider-ManNo. 262 in 1998.

Certainly, there are plenty of Spider-People who appear inMadame Web. However, since liberties are being taken with some of the characters and their histories, it’ll be interesting to see if the big-screen adaptation is actually worthy of the rich source material.

Madame Webopens exclusively in theaters on August 24, 2025. And in case any of the fans missed it, they can check out the trailer below.
