As the imaginary and largely fabricated “Snyder versus Gunn” discourse continues to divide the fans who have taken their love for their favoritesuperherofranchise a little bit too far, a key creative force behind previousSupermanadaptations has shared their opinion of the latestSupermanmovie.David S. Goyer, the writer behind Zack Snyder’sMan of Steel, the first film in the Snyderverse, offered his reaction to the 2025 feature starring David Corenswet as the titular DC icon.
Goyer, who also worked onsuperhero projects likeThe Dark Knight,Blade: Trinity, andBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, recently sat down to talk to CinemaBlend about his latest work in the Netflix seriesThe Sandman. It didn’t take long for the subject of the newSupermanmovie to come up, and Goyer offered his candid opinion on theJames Gunnreboot:

“I really liked it. People always assume that because I did The Dark Knight, I wouldn’t like The Batman, but I really enjoyed it. Each generation gets the Superman they need. It felt like the pendulum with Man of Steel, obviously that was a much darker grounded version, and, and we’re in a very different place, and I love that just the tagline that ‘Kindness is punk rock.'”
Former ‘Superman’ Star Offers Honest Opinion About James Gunn’s Reboot: “There’s a Lot in There”
‘Superman Returns’ star Brandon Routh shares his opinion about the 2025 version of the DC icon.
The newSupermanis surely the most talked-about film on every corner of the internet currently. The film, Gunn’s official feature film launch of the superhero franchise known as the DC Universe (DCU), was always going to spark some controversy. After all, fans of the superhero genre are among the most vocal and most loyal fanbases in pop culture today. Nevertheless, what’s happening nowadays is unheard of. Snyderverse fans have viciously attacked the film wherever they can. While criticism is expected, some reactions have crossed into toxic territory, with these particular fans now fighting against the tide asSupermansoars with critics and at the box office.

Goyer Calls David Corenswet’s Superman “Incredibly Appealing”
Goyer also used the opportunity to talk about the new actor playing Superman. Young starDavid Corenswethas clearly hit the right notes with an endearing performance that properly captures the spirit of Gunn’s innovative vision.Whether or not he’s the definitive Superman, he seems to be the right man for Gunn’s direction and the franchise that has just begun and will continue its development (whether some fans like it or not). This is what Goyer said:
“I think that [David] Corenswet is incredibly appealing. I never would have thought to use Krypto, and Krypto was delightful. And then I think the guy that stole the show was Mr. Terrific, who Geoff Johns and I basically turned into a real character in the Justice Society. So I was thrilled, I thought Mr. Terrific was awesome. Metamorpho, same. I love seeing a live action Metamorpho, and those are the kind of things that James Gunn can get away with, and God bless him because I love all those weird quirky tertiary DC characters. I really enjoyed it and I was rooting for it, so I’m happy it’s been successful.”
