Margot Robbie is one busy actress. Not only did she just star in writer-director Quentin Tarantino’sOnce Upon a Time in Hollywoodbut she has James Gunn’sSuicide SquadrebootThe Suicide Squadin the works as well. Oh, and let’s not forget her upcoming return to the role of Harley Quinn in director Cathy Yan’sBirds of Prey. And speaking of that Harley Quinn standalone movie, today Robbie praised the film quite a bit calling it poppy, violent, absurd, hilarious, and heartbreaking. To name a few.
Specifically,Margot Robbieteases what we can expect fromBirds of Prey, saying this.
“The story inBirds of Preyis told from her point of view, so you have an insight into Harley’s world in a way that you didn’t in the firstSuicide Squadfilm, nor that you’ll have in the nextSuicide Squadfilm. It’s a little bonkers. It reflects her personality. It’s heightened. It’s poppy, it’s fun, it’s violent, it’s crazy. It’s absurd. It’s kooky. It’s hilarious. It’s a little heartbreaking.”
We’ve seen theBirds of Prey trailerand we’ve gotta admit, that’s one hell of a string of adjectives to slap onto a flick, Robbie. But that said, being that my daughter has made me watch the trailer forBirds of Preyabout a million times by this point in life, I get where Robbie’s coming from with the abundance of adjectives. After all, the trailer has got to be one of the most bonkers previews I’ve seen since… Well, since writer-director David Ayer’s originalSuicide Squadpreview a few years back.
While theBirds of Prey posterssure are inviting, this looks like a hard movie to pin down. Genre-wise. But that’s by no means a bad thing. Truth be told I was a little worried about the film considering I had heard a fair share of negative word-of-mouth surrounding the production, but if the recently released trailer is any indication, the final product will be such fun and off-the-wall that none of that will matter in the end.
But if you just can’t wait for Robbie’s return as Harley Quinn inBirds of Prey, you can always check her out in director Jay Roach’s upcoming FOX News flickBombshellco-starring Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly and Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson. That film is all set to hit a theater near you this Christmas from Lionsgate. And if the rumor is to be believed, Robbie is so good in the film that she just might walk away with another Academy Award nomination come next year. If not the gold statue itself. But speaking of which, I don’t know about you, but I’d like to see Robbie snag her first Oscar for playing Harley Quinn. That would be fitting.
Director Cathy Yan’sBirds of Preystarring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, andEwan McGregor as Black Maskwill be unleashed by Warner Bros.
