While it hasn’t been officially announced yet, we reported last week that the newSpider-Man is likely Asa Butterfield, who reportedly beat outTom Hollandfor the role. While we wait for any confirmation on the new Spidey, another unconfirmed report has surfaced, which claims thatMatthew McConaugheyis being eyed to play Norman Osborn, a.k.a. Green Goblin. Naturally, this is the first we’re hearing about the casting, or about the inclusion of Norman Osborn, since very little is known about the story, except that Marvel and Sony want to bring Peter Parker back to high school.

The news comes just a few days after we reported thatMatthew McConaughey is wanted by both Marvel and DC, with the actor himself admitting that he has read scripts from both companies, although he would not divulge which scripts he read. While Marvel is producing the newSpider-Manwith Sony, it seems unlikely that a script is already in place, since the studios have yet to announce a writer or director for this project. With that being said, it isn’t known ifSpider-Manis one of the Marvel scripts that he has read.

While no plot details have been confirmed, it’s been rumored that there will be either three or four newSpider-Manmovies, each of which will cover one year of high school, although they will reportedly skip the origin story of Peter Parker turning intoSpider-Man, with the character already established as the web slinger when the story begins. If these rumors are true, it isn’t known ifMatthew McConaugheywould be asked to sign on for multiple movies as Norman Osborn, or if he will only show up in the first movie before passing the Green Goblin torch over to his son, Harry Osborn, but that is all speculation at this point.
