We can expect to see a lot of interactions between Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne and Jeffrey Wright’s Jim Gordon inThe Batman. Set to premiere in theaters on March 4, the film has had a long production process and stands as one of the most anticipated movies of 2022. It’s directed byMatt Reeveswho also co-wrote the screenplay with Peter Craig, setting the story outside of the DCEU and inside of its own standalone universe.
At a recent press conference to promote the film, Reeves shed some new light onThe Batman. He noted how the bond between Gordon and Batman is central to the plot of the upcoming film as fans will see when it is released. This would be in line with most versions of the Batman story where the character shares a particularly close bond with Commissioner Gordon as the two investigate Gotham’s biggest crimes together. Here’s what the director said, perCBR.

“I think from the beginning, the idea was that there was no question that the bond that Gordon and Batman had was central to the story in that they were the ones who were fighting against a stream of corruption. I think that … look, for me, movies are really about understanding and empathy.”
The film will feature plenty of villains, most notably Paul Dano’s Riddler. Appearing to know Batman’s true identity, the Riddler has been terrorizing Gotham City by meticulously carrying out murders and leaving behind puzzles for Batman to solve at the scene of the crime. Interestingly, Reeves says he’s not interested in showcasing the villains, hoping to instead better tell the story of how these people became villains inThe Batman.
“I’m not interested in villains. I’m interested in the way in which we can become villains. Meaning that our flaws are what lead us down the wrong path.”
