The recently announced second season will continue to explore the prison business in the town of Kingstown, Michigan. The town itself is where the corrupt and unequal system is the only thing keeping the local economy going. The season 2 renewal comes at no surprise given thatMayor of Kingstownis Paramount+’s second-most-watched original series directly behindYellowstone’sprequel series1883.
The McLusky family are power brokers tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. The first season of the drama series debuted back in November, with the season finale airing in January. The series premiere drew 2.6 million viewers on the linear network, with the second episode drawing in a total of 2.1 million.Mayor of Kingstownhad also become the Paramount Network’s most-watched scripted premiere since 2018.

Taylor Sheridanand Hugh Dillon co-created the series while also serving as executive producers. Jeremy Renner served as executive producer in addition to starring in the lead role. Antoine Fuqua, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, and Michael Friedman also executive produced alongside MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios. While fans have just only received a confirmation for its second season thus far, there are no current details pertaining to its release date at this time. Recently commenting on the renewal,Antoine Fuquasaid that he’s “thrilled” to continue working for season 2, since “Mayor of Kingstownis such an important project that offers a comprehensive look into the brutal prison system.” David C. Glasser also underlined that it’s wonderful news that “shows likeMayor of Kingstown– original stories with layered characters and important themes – are able to thrive on Paramount+.”

The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reports a 32% approval rating, with an average rating of 5.8/10, based on a total of 25 critic reviews.
