Twenty years afterMean Girlsshoved its way to the top of the box office, an official remake has been developed by Paramount Players. However, rather than simply remaking the beloved cinematic version, the new adaptation ofMean Girlswill take cues from the Broadway Musical based on the hit comedy movie. As such, a whole new cast of actors will be playing familiar characters in the upcoming redo.
Mean Girlsfollows the teenage exploits of Cady Heron, a naive homeschooler who joins the popular mean girl clique known as The Plastics while attending her first public school. When Cady develops a crush on the ex-boyfriend of The Plastics' meanspirited leader Regina (Rachel McAdams), an all-out war for social status ensues. With the remake ofMean Girlsslated for release on June 12, 2025, it’s time to meet the talented young cast and their fictional counterparts in the upcoming musical comedy.

10Angourie Rice is Cady Heron
Taking up the mantle from Lindsay Lohan, Angourie Rice will play Cady Heron in the newMean Girlsmovie. Cady is a naive social misfit who spent her first 12 years being homeschooled. When her family relocates to a new town, Cady attends public school for the first time and quickly gets a sobering lesson in the social pecking order of high school’s most popular students. Cady develops a teenage crush on Aaron Samuel, which draws the evil ire of Queen Bee Regina George.
Rice is a mega-talented actor who has developed quite the resume since her career commenced. After breaking out opposite Ryan Gosling inShane Black’s buddy-cop movie,The Nice Guys, Rice has continued to increase her profile by starring as Betty Brant in the last threeSpider-Manmovies. 9Reneé Rapp is Regina George
Filling Rachel McAdams' shoes, Reneé Rapp depicts Regina George in the upcoming musical comedy. Rapp is an American actor and singer who gained notoriety for playing Regina George in the Broadway musical adaptation of the movie. While it will be hard to replicate McAdams' performance as the cruel leader of The Plastics, at least Rapp already has a beat on the part and knows how to play Regina with the required musicality.
Far from being a one-note musical talent, Rapp also has plenty of screen acting experience that should allow fans of the original film to rest easy. Rapp notably starred as Leighton Murray in theMax original seriesThe Sex Lives of College Girls, giving her some familiarity with an educational setting and the contemporary mores of student life. Rapp has also starred in many of her own music videos, which are sure to increase her comfort in front of a camera.
8Auli’i Cravalho is Janis ‘Imi’ike
Auli’i Cravalho (seen right) portrays Janis ‘Imi’ike inMean Girls, a role originated by Lizzy Caplan. Janis is Regina’s former best friend who despises everything she now stands for. As a result of Regina spreading vicious rumors about her at school, Janis vows to get revenge on the leader of The Plastics. To do so, Janis befriends Cady, and the two work together to serve Regina a humbling dose of her own medicine.
Cravalho is a versatile actor and singer who made her movie debut by voicing the title character inthe culturally diverse Disney movie,Moana. Between her performance as Ariel inThe Little Mermaid Liveand her charming performance in Hulu’s high school rom-comCrush, Cravalho has the range and resume to admirably bring Janis back to the big screen with convincing results.
7Tina Fey is Sharon Norbury
One of the few original actors to reprise their role fromMean Girls, Tina Fey returns as Mrs. Sharon Norbury in the 2024 reboot. Mrs. Norbury is the math teacher at North Shore High School where the movie is set, and moonlights as a bartender. Ron develops romantic feelings for Ms. Norbury in the film, which are slowly reciprocated in an adorable fashion. The chemistry between Meadows and Fey is so natural and easy that it’s no surprise the two are back for this musical encore.

5Bebe Wood is Gretchen Wieners
Bebe Wood (seen left) portrays Gretchen Wieners in the newMean Girlsmusical movie. Gretchen is the loose-lipped member of The Plastics known for gossiping, spreading rumors around school, and being hard on her own self-image. She is also the best friend and sidekick of Regina, who has a negative influence on her. Deep down, Gretchen is much nicer than most of her fellow Plastics and eventually joins the Cool Asians’ clique after the mean girls disband.
Wood is a fast-rising actor who landed her first major role as Shania Clemmons inThe New Normal. Wood’s most notable roles also include portraying Shannon O’Neal inThe Real O’Neals, and most recently, Lake Meriwether in Hulu’s coming-of-age series,Love, Victor. Without many musical credits thus far, it’ll be interesting to see how much Wood sings in the new version ofMean Girls.
4Christopher Briney is Aaron Samuels
Christopher Briney depicts Aaron Samuels in the film. Aaron is one of the most popular and desirable boys in school and happens to be Regina’s ex-boyfriend. Briney is an American actor who has recently begun his professional career. After appearing in a pair of short films in 2018 and 2020, Briney landed his first movie role in Mary Harron’s 2022 historical biopic,Daliland. Briney followed his film debut by starring as Conrad in thePrime Video original romance series,The Summer I Turned Pretty. Chances are, Briney’s profile is soon to skyrocket after playing such a crucial role in theMean Girlsmusical adaptation.
3Avantika Vandanapu is Karen Shetty
Avantika Vandanapu (seen right) plays Karen Shetty, replacing Amanda Seyfried from the 2004 original film. Karen is the not-so-bright member of The Plastics who expresses her frustrations with her limited intellectual capacity. Once The Plastics break up, Karen is revealed to have become a weather anchor who has a unique method of predicting when it will rain. Of all the characters, Karen is arguably the most quotable.
