Mortal Kombat 2is very quickly becoming one of the most highly anticipated action movies of 2025, and the sequel to the 2021 video game adaptation hasjust been given an unexpected boost by producer Todd Garner and franchise co-creator Ed Boon.Even though the movie is not set to be released in cinemas until October 2025, a recent social media post by Boon suggests that the film is very much in the can and set to blow minds in just under a year’s time.

In a post onX/Twitter, Garner sent a direct message to Boon asking if he had “Seen any good movies lately?” In a response, Boon shared an image of himself in a movie theater, where he seemed to have been watching somethingMK2related.Although Boon did not elaborate on exactly what he saw, the post suggests that it was the completed cut of the movie, which wrapped filming back in January.

While it may seem a little early for any footage to be ready for public consumption, interactions between Garner and Boon have often been followed by some kind of official announcement or trailer release. Needless to say that fans of the 2021 movie are pumped, and desperate to see what thenew and returning playerswill be bringing to the sequel and the brutal tournament that it promises to deliver.

Mortal Kombat 2 Will Build on the Promise of Its Predecessor

One thing that everyone wants to see in aMortal Kombatsequel is the thing that the 2021 movie did not deliver – a tournament. It is just as well then that this has been promised many times over during the early development and filming of the new addition to the franchise. Recently, actor Mechad Brooks, who plays Jax in the franchise, shared a teasing hint at the scale of the sequel. He previously said:

“In this film, you’re going to see a lot more of Jax’s personality, a lot more of his humor, a lot more of what he believes, and some really, really awesome fighting. There are 27 fights in the movie, and we worked really hard to get those right.”

It’s Game Over for ‘Mortal Kombat’ Fans This December

Fatality. Physical media wins, again.

The recent news thatMortal Kombat 2has been handed an R-ratingdid not come as much of a surprise, but has continued to hype up fans for the film’s release. There is a long way still to go before audiences are able to experience the blood, sweat, and tears in cinemas, but so far there has been little to suggest that the film will not be able to give fans exactly what they want next October. Whether it can bring enough to the table in order also draw in those not as familiar with the video game or the previous movie is something that could be a much tougher ask, but could also be the deciding factor in whether the film lives or dies at the box office.
