Super7 has taken the awesome 80s plushMy Pet Monsterand turned it into two retro-style ReAction figures. The grotesque teddy bear for boys was first introduced in 1986 by American Greetings. Since its debut, the monster has been a big collectible for horror fans over the years, which means these new Super7 figures will more than likely sell out. Original plush versions of the monster often go for pretty good money, so this might be a good time to pick up a smaller and cheaper version.

Super7has takenMy Pet Monsterand transformed him into their retro-style ReAction figure line. There are two different versions to choose from, including the normal monster and then the football style monster. Both of them are 3.75″ tall and are on sale for $18, exclusively through Super7. Both figures will probably be available where Super7 merch is sold, along with the convention circuit. The company has not revealed how many they have made, but they look like they will move pretty quickly.

My Pet Monsterwas a plush doll that was one of a handful dolltoysaimed at boys. It was first produced in 1986, and it continued to be very popular until the early 1990s. Each monster had blue fur, fans, horns, and came handcuffed. Children were also able to handcuff themselves with the orange toy cuffs. Different varieties ofMy Pet Monsterwere released, coming with names like Gwonk, Wogster, and Rark. There were also a variety of different products tied into the original monster. Coloring books, Golden Look-Look books, frame-tray puzzles, and more were released throughout the years.

The originalMy Pet Monsterwas pretty massive at 26" and it dwarfed other dolls at the time. He was pretty much a teddy bear on steroids, which was part of the allure. The monster was one of the hottest toys of theholiday season in 1986 and 1987, where it was often difficult to track down. Instead of going with the traditional TV series route to get more people to buy the monster, American Greetings took a different approach and did a direct-to-video live-action movie and then a cartoon, which proved to be very successful.

A redesign ofMy Pet Monsterwas released in 2001, but it failed to capture the impact of the original toy from the 1980s. Regardless, there are still collectors hunting downmonster merchand these new Super7 figures are a new collectible to try and capture. Now that Hasbro has the rights, we could very well see a return ofMy Pet Monster, possibly on the big screen, since the toy company is really gunning for more movies.
