Potential Black Panther 2 spoilers below!The thrilling first trailer for the upcomingMarvelsequel,Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, finallyconfirmed once and for all that Namor the Sub-Mariner will make his MCU debut.Portrayed byNarcos: Mexicostar Tenoch Huerta, the newly released footage offers several glimpses of the character‘s live-action depiction revealing that, in line with recent rumors, Namor will lean heavily into the iconography of the Aztecs.
Precise use of the pause button has also revealed that Namor will maintain a comic accurate element. One which many had thought might be erased when bringing the character into live action. But no, it is now confirmed that Namor will indeed possess small wings on his ankles.
Debuting in early Marvel Comics in 1939, and created by writer-artist Bill Everett, Namor comes to be after his human father falls in love with an Atlantean Princess. Namor, also known as the Sub-Mariner, is often depicted as an anti-hero, switching allegiances depending on what is best for his beloved underwater kingdom. He possesses the powers of super-strength, speed and stamina, as well as being able to survive underwater, and has the power of flight thanks to vestigial “wings” on both of his ankles.
Often depicted in green trunks and with pointy elf-like ears and the aforementioned ankle wings, Namor will be surprisingly comic accurate in both look, origin, and allegiance when joining the pantheon of Marvel heroes inBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever. And from the footage shown so far, Namor will have a major impact on the people of Wakanda and theMarvel Cinematic Universeas a whole.
Black Panther 2Finds Wakanda & Atlantis at War
While theSan Diego Comic-Contrailer forBlack Panther: Wakanda Forevermanages to keep a lot of things close to the chest, it’s clear that the sequel will center on a war between the nations of Wakanda and Atlantis.
The footage does seemingly align with a recent leak, which claims to reveal the overall plot ofBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever. Be warned, potentialSPOILERSto follow.The leak claims that the Marvel sequel will find Namor “awakened” after a team of scientists attempt to mine vibranium from Atlantis. Discovered by Riri Williams AKA Ironheart, Namor aims to kill Riri, but Wakanda decides to protect her, pitting the two nations against each other.
The leak also reveals that —MORE SPOILERS- T’Challa has died of a “sickness” and that Shuri will step into the role of Black Panther to take the fight to Namor and the Atlanteans. While none of this is confirmed, fans are convinced that the new Black Panther glimpsed in the trailer is either Shuri, Nakia, or Okoye.
