We all loveChris Hemsworthas Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but to date, his solo adventures have left a little something to be desired. That being said,Thor: Ragnarokis shaping up to be something very special, but one star from the previous franchise entries will not be returning. As was suspected,Natalie Portmanhas confirmed that she will indeed, not be inThor 3.

Speaking with theWall Street Journal,Portmangave official confirmation that she will not be reprising her role as Jane Foster in the upcomingThor sequel.Portmanappeared in bothThorandThor: The Dark Worldas Jane Foster, who has been something of a love interest for the God of Thunder, but that all may be over.Portmanadded that she is pretty sure that she is done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe altogether. Here is what she had to say.

“As far as I know, I’m done. I don’t know if maybe one day they’ll ask for an ‘Avengers 7’ or whatever I have no idea. But as far as I know, I’m done.”

Natalie Portmanhas seemingly had trepidations about getting involved with a major franchise ever since theStar Warsprequels wrapped up. In the years since, she has done a lot more independent movies and seemingly chooses her projects very carefully. TheThor moviesbeing the one big exception to that. Currently, she has taken up directing, with her first feature,A Tale of Love and Darknesscoming out soon. Rumors had been circulating for a while that Marvel Studios andPortmanwere maybe parting ways, and this all but confirms it.

Even though Jane Foster won’t be back forThor: Ragnarok, the movie has added a ton of new, very promisingcast membersto help fill the gap.Cate Blanchettwill be playing the primary villain as Hela,Jeff Goldblumwill be playing the role of Grandmaster,Karl Urbanis playing the villainous Skurge, andCreedstarTessa Thompsonis playingValkyrie. The addition ofThompsonfurther indicates thatPortmanmay really be done with the MCU, as she could easily take the place of the female lead in futureThormovies. Also, it would be pretty easy to make her a new love interest forThor, as they were at one point romantically involved in the comics.

The last time Jane Foster was even mentioned in the MCU was inAvengers: Age of Ultron, when it was said she was up for a Nobel Prize. It wouldn’t be all that hard to explain her absence. In fact, given the plot ofThor: Ragnarok, her not being there may not have to be explained at all.Taika Waititihas taken over directing duties forThor: Ragnarok, which is due out in theaters on August 09, 2025. you’re able to check out the video clip ofNatalie Portman’s interview with the Wall Street Journal below.
