Netflix is still firmly winning the ongoing streaming wars thanks to international mega-hits likeStranger Things,Squid Game,Wednesday,The Witcher,One Piece, and so, so many more. But amid all the high-budget fantasy and horror shows that dominate the pop culture conversation, the streamer’s 2025 British drama has risen through the ranks to become the second most-streamed series of all time on Netflix. Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne’s hit miniseries,Adolescence, was released earlier this year to rave reviews from critics and viewers, but it also has dominating viewing statistics, and its latest record is no easy feat.

After releasing this March,Adolescencehas just completed its first 91 days on Netflix, which the streamer uses to measure overall success. After three months, the relatively low-budget British drama beat major hits likeBridgerton,Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, andStranger Things 4to become the second most-watched English-language series of all time on Netflix. The four-episode series accrued 141.2 million views during that time period. This putsAdolescencejust aboveStranger Things 4, which earned 140.7 million during its first three months. However, it is still a long way offNetflix’s biggest show of all time, Tim Burton’sWednesday. The debut season of the gothic comedy series, released in 2022, amassed a staggering 252.1 million views in just 91 days.

Star of Netflix’s Crime Drama Hit ‘Adolescence’ Reveals Biggest Acting Inspiration Came From an MCU Star

Owen Cooper, young star of ‘Adolescence’ says Tom Holland’s performance in ‘The Impossible’ convinced him to become an actor.

The divide betweenAdolescenceandWednesday’s viewing figures shouldn’t diminish the incredible feat the British drama has achieved. Co-created by Graham and Thorne,Adolescencetakes a no-holds-barred look at knife crimeand violence against women in the UK, both of which are currently major issues and talking points in the region. As well as its harrowing story,Adolescencealso wowed viewers by shooting each episode in a single take, without any secret cuts. While some claimed the creative decision was a gimmick, it enhanced the tension and stress within each scene, meaning it was a very effective “gimmick,” if that’s what you choose to call it.

‘Adolescence’ Season 2 Is in the Works

As is the case with any successful Netflix series, the streamer is undoubtedly looking to use that momentum to create a second season.AdolescenceSeason 2 has already been confirmedto be in the works. However, the second season likely won’t continue Jamie’s (Owen Cooper) story. In April of this year, Dede Gardner of Plan B studio revealed that Season 2 would move away from Jamie to “widen the aperture, stay true to its DNA, [and] not be repetitive.”

Another major question surrounding a second season is whether it would also be shot in a continuous take. Neither Gardner nor any representatives from Netflix have confirmed this yet. Season 2 ofAdolescenceis in the earliest stages of development at Netflix, and it hasn’t been confirmed if the streamer will officially move forward with Season 2. But, given the record-breaking success of Season 1, it is very likely.
