Heading into its sixth weekend in theaters,Star Wars: The Force Awakenshas already become the highest-grossing domestic movie of all time with $868.5 million, shatteringAvatar’sbox officerecord of $760.5 million. The blockbuster still has a long way to go before breakingAvatar’s worldwide record of $2.7 billion, but while we wait to see what records this big screen adventure will break next,ComicBook.comhas discovered two new international TV spots, featuring some of the movie’s most beloved moments.
Among some of these classic moments in this footage is BB-8’s “thumbs up” to Finn (John Boyega),Han Solo(Harrison Ford) trying to explain “The Force” to Finn and Han tryingChewbacca’s iconic Bowcaster weapon. We also see the beloved scene where Rey (Daisy Ridley) dismisses the Millennium Falcon as “garbage,” before the other ship they’re running to blows up. Hopefully we’ll all be able to watch this iconic movie on Blu-ray, DVD and other home video formats soon, but no official release date has been given yet.
Star Wars: The Force Awakenstook home five Oscar nominations a few days ago, although most were in technical categories such as sound editing, sound mixing, visual effects and film editing, along with a nod forJohn Williams' original score. In more recent years, the Academy has given Best Picture nods to big-budget blockbusters likeGravityandAmerican Sniper, but they were both ultimately shut out of all the major awards. Unfortunately for fans,Star Wars: The Force Awakens' failed to land any major awards recognition.
Star Wars: The Force Awakensis now the third highest grossing movie of all time, with $1.89 billion, behindTitanic($2.186 billion) andAvatar($2.788 billion). The film rapidly rose through the box office ranks in its first month, but it remains to be seen if it can surpass those movies to be the top-grossing film of all time at the worldwide box office. Since it will likely still be playing in theaters for several more months, it seems completely possible that it could break those records.
Most of these iconic characters will be returning inStar Wars: Episode VIII, which starts production next month, under the direction ofRian Johnson. Hopefully we’ll learn more about this story as we get closer and closer toStar Wars 8’s production start, including a confirmed list of cast members.
