Thunderboltsis just days away, and as the film gets closer to release, Marvel Studios is having trouble keeping the reveal ofLewis Pullman’s Bob— aka The Sentry — under wraps.Thunderboltsis the final film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 5, and brings together pre-established characters introduced inBlack Widow,The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, andAnt-Man and the Wasp. However, the talked-about new member of the team, who is also(spoiler alert!)one of the central anti-heroes, is none other than the iconic Marvel character The Sentry, who also has the villainous persona, The Void.
In the lead-up toThunderbolts*, the officialMarvel Future Fightmobile game account revealed a new banner, letting players know they can obtain costumes inspired by the movie for their heroes in the game. The official artwork includes a good look at the Sentry’s iconic gold costume with a blue cape. The artwork features the full roster of theThunderbolts*and the costumes players can obtain inMarvel Future Fight.

Ghost is re-joining the MCU for ‘Thunderbolts*’, and a lot has changed since we last saw the character.
Behold, The Sentry! Or Bob! Or The Void Or Whatever!
While Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield appearing as their respective Peter Parkers inSpider-Man: No Way Homeis by far Marvel Studios' worst-kept secret, the Sentry’s involvement inThunderboltsmay be the second worst. WhenSteven Yeunwas originally cast in Thunderbolts,The Walking DeadandInvinciblecreatorRobert Kirkmanlet slip that Yeun was cast as the Sentry. The trailers forThunderbolts*have sold the character as merely Bob, with the Void persona only having just been revealed. The actual Sentry costume itself has been excluded from the marketing. However, a toy leak of thefilm’s official Funko Pop!had already given away the identity of The Sentry.
The Sentry costume in theMarvel Future Fightsartwork aligns with previous looks at the costume, which maintain the classic gold and blue color scheme from the comics, but give it a slightly more armored look — one that appears to be manufactured and, in some ways, calculated. Maybe The Sentry is acreation of Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine(Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and his superhero look is designed based on focus groups and market research. That seems like something she would do, doesn’t it?

OnceThunderboltshits theaters, Marvel Studios will undoubtedly release a slew of official images of the character’s costume and go into further detail about this iteration of Bob/The Sentry/The Void. Lewis Pullman is alreadyconfirmed to return as BobinAvengers: Doomsday, suggesting that not only will The Sentry survive the events ofThunderbolts, but he could also be a powerful ally in the fight against Doctor Doom. (And we all know the Avengers are going to need all the help they can get to defeat the return of Robert Downey, Jr. to the MCU.) The big question will be whether The Sentry, a character described as Marvel’s Superman, will impact audiences' perception of the DCU’sSuperman, which opens two months afterThunderbolts*.
Or maybe we’ll all still be wondering about whythat pesky little asteriskis in the movie title’s name.
