James Gunn recently took to social media to confirm a newGuardians of the GalaxyEaster Egg, but noted that the fan had only found part of the mystery. Gunn has promised for years that there are still plenty of Easter Eggs hidden in Vol. 1 as well as Vol. 2, noting that in regard to Vol. 1, there’s still a pretty big mystery that hardcore fans have come close to finding. Could this new Easter Egg connectGuardians of the GalaxytoCaptain Marvel?
Earlier today, Marvel fan Danactual tweeted toJames Gunnthat he had found a newGuardians of the GalaxyEaster Egg. The scene in question is actually the Stan Lee cameo. In the scene, Lee plays a character named “Xandarian Ladies' Man,” and he’s seen hitting on a young woman. He’s being watched at a distance by Rocket Raccoon, who proclaims Lee to be a “Class-A creeper” through his weapon. Danactual had this to say about the cameo.
“Stan Lee’s cameo in Guardians. Two things. Firstly, the circled alien text spells Excelsior! Secondly, that’s the Skrull Language! Haven’t seen this spoken about anywhere else.”
James Gunn responded by saying that yes, it is anundiscovered Easter EggfromGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, but it wasn’t the main mystery. Gunn was somewhat cryptic, but what this Easter Egg shows us is that Rocket Raccoon’s gun is either made from Skrull technology or that it’s an actual Skrull design. Additionally, it was announced today that Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) and his henchman Korath the Pursuer (Djimon Hounsou), both from Guardians will be appearing inCaptain Marvel. This has led to some speculation that the movie could set up the events inGuardians of the Galaxy.
Brie Larson’sCarol Danvers starts her storyas a member of the United States Air Force and ends up in the middle of a galactic space war between the Skrull and the Kree. The Guardians run into the Kree in the first movie, which takes place years after the events ofCaptain Marvel. Jude Law portrays Doctor Lawson, who is also known as the Kree hero, Mar-Vell. Mar-Vell is somewhat of a mentor to Carol Danvers and she ends up taking on his role later in the story.
It’s possible that we could see some Guardians of the Galaxy cameos from where their characters were at during the early 1990s whenCaptain Marveltakes place. Thetwo groups fighting in spacealso makes this idea a lot more plausible of a deeper connection between the two franchises.Captain Marvelis currently in production in California and will hit theaters in March of 2019. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to go into production soon and will be released during the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2020, after the events ofAvengers 4. You can check out the Easter Egg that started all of the speculation below, thanks to Danactual’s Twitter account.
