While moviegoers are mentally preparing themselves for one of theyear’s best horror movieswithRobert Eggers’Nosferatu, a silly story so far out of left field has crawled out of the shadows in the press lead-up to the anticipated film.As a sort of inside joke between the two, director Eggers sent one of the film’s stars,Nicholas Hoult, a somewhat NSFW wrap gift at the conclusion of filmingNosferatu, a prosthetic penis. According to Hoult, Eggers sent the prop as a bit of a callback to a conversation the two had while on set.

In a new episode ofElle’sAsk Me Anythingseries on YouTube, Hoult sat down with co-star Lily-Rose Depp to answer a series of questions, one of which was about “a prop or wardrobe piece [he’s] taken from set.” In immediate response to the question, Hoult shared that he has “Count Orlok’s prosthetic penis framed at home.” Hoult continued, providing some much-needed backstory on the non-traditional gift:

Bill Skarsgård as the Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont in John Wick: Chapter 4

There’s a scene where Bill Skarsgård is slurping my blood and Robert Eggers asked, ‘How was that for you?’ … And I said, ‘I could feel his prosthetic penis on my leg.'

‘Nosferatu’s Bill Skarsgård “Felt Very Isolated” From His Co-Stars While Filming the Gothic Horror Movie

“I was, like, very, very, very separate.”

Humorously, Hoult recalls that the gift arrived at his house in a cracked frame, so the actor had to take it to his local frame shop to repair it. When returning to pick up his framed prosthetic, Hoult jokes that he received some questions as to the nature of this gift. While many stars and filmmakers take home props from projects they’ve worked on, a framed prosthetic certainly isn’t the most common keepsake.

In hisreview ofNosferatu, MovieWeb’s own George Edelman praised the screenplay’s various surprises, Eggers’ attention to detail, and the performances of the star-studded cast. Tackling a classic likeNosferatuis no easy feat, but the general consensus is that Eggers and company did right by fans of the original and the horror genre in general.Nosferatujumped out to a fast start, scoring a near-perfect 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. The final score looks to settle somewhere in the upper ’80s or lower ’90s, which is still quite impressive.
