Just one month after it was announced thatRonda Rouseywill star in MGM’sremakeof the 1989 cult classicRoad House, the project has found its director. The Hollywood Reporterreveals thatNick Cassavetes(The Other Woman,The Notebook) has come aboard to helm the action-packed drama. Our initial report from last month revealed that the studio is currently meeting with screenwriters, and production is scheduled to begin sometime next year.

The originalRoad Housewas released in 1989, starringPatrick Swayze, just two years after his breakout performance inDirty Dancing. The story centered onPatrick Swayze’s Dalton, who is hired to bring some order to the rowdiest bar in Missouri, known as The Double Deuce. Along with the nightly barrage of violent drunks, Dalton must also contend with a corrupt businessman, who is trying to destroy the bar and the small town along with it.

Ronda Rouseywill take overPatrick Swayze’s role, but little is known about her character. Before taking on the role,Ronda Rouseysought out the latePatrick Swayze’s widow, Lisa Niemi, to ask for her blessing in taking on the project, which she gave. Since the project doesn’t have a screenwriter attached yet, there is very little we know about the updated story thus far, and the characters that will surroundRonda Rouseyin the lead role.

Ronda Rouseyis coming off roles inFurious 7andEntourageearlier this year, and she also starred in last year’sThe Expendables 3. She is currently set to star as herself inMy Fight/Your Fight, abiopicbased on her life, along with Warner Bros. The Athena Projectand STX Entertainment’sMile 22. She will also return to the octagon to defend her UFC Women’s title against Holly Holm during UFC 195 on November 14.

It’s possible that production onRoad Housewill begin in early 2016, afterRonda Rousey’s UFC title fight, but since there isn’t a screenwriter attached, it may be a bit longer until this remake gets off the ground.Nick Cassavetesmost recently directed thecomedymovieThe Other Woman, and his otherdirectorialcredits include She’s So Lovely, John Q,The Notebook,Alpha Dog,My Sister’s KeeperandYellow.
