After a successfulSeason 1,Marvel’s Daredevilfans begin the long wait forSeason 2, coming toNetflixnext year. Marvel and thestreaming TVgiant made the surprise announcement last week thatJon Bernthalhas signed on to play Frank Castle, a.k.a. thenew Punisher. While we still don’t know how he fits into the story, actressRosario Dawson, who stars as The Night Nurse, teased that Frank Castle’s arrival could provide an interesting dynamic forCharlie Cox’s Matt Murdock. And then she added more insight into her ownClaire Temple.
“That’s going to raise the stakes so much more, because Matt Murdock almost behaves like the Punisher in the first season. [Matt] crosses the line quite often, so it’s going to be really interesting to see how they differentiate them and where that goes. She’s funny, she’s wry, she’s strong - she’s built for that world, because she’s great under pressure. She’s someone - hero or not - you’d want to have in a dire situation… I really just liked her arc all the way through. I’m looking forward to seeing where that goes, because her eyes have been opened up to this other world - and she’s crossed the line. You know, this is someone who helps people, and she’s been violent now but seeing the need for it. I think there’s a lot that she’s having to grapple with, and I think that’s what’s exciting about using this show to explore street-level characters: it makes it that much more closer to us.”
In theMarvel comics, Night Nurse has a relationship withLuke Cage, who will debut inMarvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, played byMike Colter, before starring in his ownNetflix series. WhileRosario Dawsondoesn’t explicitly say that Night Nurse will cross over into the other shows, the actress does tease that she could appear onLuke CageandMarvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones.
“Even just having Night Nurse and Claire Temple come together was already changing the Marvel Universe. So it just feels like, A) I finally get to join Marvel. I get to do it in a way that’s completely altering the universe, which is awesome. And then, B) I have no idea where it’s going to go, because here I was having a fling with Matt Murdock, and nowLuke Cageis coming up, and Jessica Jones.”
Marvel hasn’t announced whenMarvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones,Luke CageandMarvel’s Iron Fistwill debut, but all of these characters, along withMarvel’s Daredevil, will come together in the Netflix miniseriesThe Defenders.
