Withproduction slated to begin this Marchin Vancouver, the long-awaitedDeadpoolmovie starringRyan Reynoldsis finally happening, with 20th Century Fox setting aFebruary 12, 2016release date back in September.MTVcaught up withRyan Reynoldsat the Sundance Film Festival, where he was on hand for the premiere of his new movieMississippi Grind.Deadpoolhas been in the works for several years, ever sinceRyan Reynoldsplayed the Merc With the Mouth in 2009’sX-Men Origins: Wolverine. The actor reveals that the project is moving forward in the right way, saying that it’s actually a blessing that they don’t have the inflated budget most superhero movies have:
“It’s been a long time, but it’s happened in the right way and that’s all that matters. We don’t have the kind of money that most superhero movies do, but that’s great, actually. Necessity is the mother of invention, and that’s why we get to make the movie we want to make.”
A few years afterX-Men Origins: Wolverinehit theaters,Ryan Reynoldsstarred as Hal Jordan in Warner Bros.' DC Comics adaptationGreen Lantern, which wasn’t received too well by audiences and critics alike. When asked ifGreen Lantern’s failure has put even more pressure on him to deliver a hit withDeadpool, the actor had this to say.
“No, no, no, of course not. You gotta have faith in the people you’re working with, and have faith in the prep, and that’s all I’m doing. On this one, the prep’s been 11 years. You’d like to think you’re putting your best foot forward, but we’ll see.”
Back in July, test footage fromDeadpoolleaked online, which was met by a positive and enthusiastic response from fans around the world. Many thought that the leaked footage was instrumental in 20th Century Fox finally giving the green light for the movie just a few months later, but it still isn’t known if that is the case, or who actually leaked the footage in the first place. When asked if he leaked the footage himself,Ryan Reynoldshad this to say.
“I would have Fox’s lawyers so far up my ass they could smell Wade Wilson’s feet. No, no, no I didn’t leak it. But I would have. Looking back now, in a heartbeat. I should go home and scan the old hard drive and see what I’ve got in there.”
