As someone who has been part of the MCU since the beginning,Samuel L. Jacksonwill be the longest serving actor of the franchise whenSecret Invasionarrives on Disney+, and the man who brings Nick Fury to life on screen has been teasing that we may also see “Young Nick Fury” again in the upcoming series. Having played a prominent role in the Marvel story for so long,Secret Invasionwill finally see Fury as the lead character, and it looks set to be another action-packed entry to the franchise.
Secret Invasionwas originally announced by Marvel Studios in 2020, and will be a take on the crossover comic book event of the same name. The series will not only see the return of Jackson as the instigator of the Avengers Initiative, but will also bring back Ben Mendelsohn as Skrull Talos, and Cobie Smulders as Fury’s frequent working partner Maria Hill. Although there are no other familiar faces known to be part of the series, this is a Marvel show and that means anything is possible.

Filming on the series has been taking place over the last couple of months in the U.K. seeming to run simultaneously withThe Marvels, which is also expected to feature both the Skrulls and Fury, and Jackson has been teasing fans with a number of Instagram posts over the course of the shoot. His latest photo is a selfie him sporting a brown goatee beard in place of the full graying beard he has been seen sporting in leaked set images, and commenting, “Patch, no patch, scar, no scar. Old School Fury Day, gotta find the Groove!” Considering the origin of Fury’s scars and eye-patch were explained inCaptain Marvelin 2019, this would suggest that we are going to see more from the younger version of Fury in the series.
Samuel L Jackson’s Latest Post Raises Many Questions About His Secret Invasion Return
Thanks to images of Samuel L. Jackson in fullOld Nick Furymode on set, many people had come to the decision thatSecret Invasionwould be wholly set in the near future but that now doesn’t seem to be the case. The question is, if the series is going to go into the past of Fury’s character, where exactly will that part of the story take place?
Jackson’s caption regarding the lack of eye-patch and scars would suggest that the scenes he was preparing for could take place around the time ofCaptain Marvel. However, Fury did not have a goatee at any point during the film. As Fury was revealed to have been given his facial scars and lost the use of his eye during the movie, then the scenes cannot take place after theCaptain Marveltimeline, but as his interaction with Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers and the Skrulls seemed to be the first time he had encountered anything otherworldly, it seems hard to see how the scenes could take place before that.
Of course, there is always a possibility that we are about to see an alternate version of Fury from another part of the multiverse, which would help tie the series into the current development of the multiverse within the MCU. All will be revealed when Secret Invasion arrives on Disney+, with a rumored release date sometime towards the end of the year.
