It may be 2025, but Buffy Summers has not slowed down one bit. Following the announcement of theBuffy the Vampire Slayerreboot earlier this year, which is confirmed to have a pilot order from Hulu, longtime fans of the series have been eagerly waiting for additional updates about the upcoming revival. With production underway,BuffyalumSarah Michelle Gellar, who famously played the titular character for seven seasons (from 1997 to 2003), recently gave fans a behind-the-scenes update that will (hopefully) hold them over until more information is revealed about the reboot series.
Recently on Instagram, theBuffy the Vampire Slayeralum posted a BTS video of herself hitting the gym with actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who will play the new “Buffy” in the revival series. Various clips show Gellar and Armstrong working out with their trainer in the gym. But one moment that stuck out to us was at the beginning of the video, where Gellar and her co-star strike a fighting pose — the gesture instantly brought us (and many fans) back to Buffy’s slaying days. “Warrior 1 and 2 We don’t sweat … we sparkle,” Gellar captioned the video, which currently has over 2 million views and counting. In the upcoming reboot, Gellar will return as Buffy and will serve as a mentor to Armstrong’s character Nova, who is described as a “cerebral” teenager who is “very smart and a bit of a loner.”

While much hasn’t been revealed about Armstrong’s Nova, we know that she is the destined “chosen one” who will follow in Buffy’s footsteps. Back in May, Gellartook to Instagramto share her excitement for the newBuffyseries. In the caption of the post, theI Know What You Did Last Summeractress couldn’t stop gushing over Armstrong’s casting. She wrote:
“From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side. To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.”

This latest BTS update comes afterit was previously reported that new cast memberswould be joining the “Scooby Gang.” In case you missed it,Severancestar Sarah Bock will take on the role of Gracie, whileLaw & Order:SVU’s Ava Jean will play Larkin andRaven’s Homeactor Faly Rakotohavana will play Hugo. With a new generation of slayers joining the action, fans have been holding out hope for Gellar to be reunited with her formerBuffyco-stars. So, have the originalBuffystars expressed interest in returning for the revival series?
Sarah Michelle Gellar Wants to Bring Back Original ‘Buffy’ Cast Members for Revival
While speaking withVanity Fairback in June, Gellar (who will also return to the newBuffyseries as an executive producer) shared how she wants some of her cast members from the original series to come back for the revival — even if that means bringing their characters back from the dead. Though it hasn’t been confirmed if her former castmates will return for the new show, Gellar told the publication:
“We will try to find a balance between new and old characters. My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.”

So far, only oneBuffyalum (aside from Gellar) has expressed interest in returning for the revival series. During an interview withIGN, Christina Carpenter shared how she wants toreprise her role as Cordelia Chase in the newBuffyseriesafter her “unjust” departure from theAngelspinoff. “I am so excited for fans, and I know it will be fantastic because of who’s involved,” Carpenter toldIGN. “To see this actually happen for the fans makes me thrilled. I am so hopeful to be included, for Cordelia to be a part of this new iteration.”
For now, a release date hasn’t been confirmed for the newBuffy the Vampire Slayerseries. But if you want to take a stroll down memory lane and relive the good ‘ol days with the “Scooby Gang,” then you’re in luck, because all seven seasons of the originalBuffy the Vampire Slayerare available to stream on Hulu.
