The last time audiences got to spend time withDavid Arquette’s iconic Dewey Rileywas in Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s superbScream(2022). And, tragically, it was the final time. His last scene was a traumatic one for fans and, according to his interview withTooFab(in anticipation of his newest movieThe Good Half),it was and remains equally traumatic for Arquette himself. As the franchise veteran of the first fiveScreamfilms said:
“I know, it’s really still sad to me. Dewey was such an honor to play and be a part of those films and get to work with Wes and this incredible cast as well. It has been a grieving process.”

TooFab asked Arquette about his experience working on the 2022 film, in particular. He goes into detail of the specific struggles, including the major difficulty that comes with promoting the movie while avoiding any dreaded spoilers. Particularly regarding his character’s fate. Not to mention the typical difficulty of promoting aScreammovie without giving a solitary hint as to who the killer (or, more often, killers) is.
“It was a hard film to film, knowing that was happening. And then one of the harder parts was knowing what the film had and doing press and not talking about it, or kind of stretch the truth and not reveal anything. That was pretty hard for me.”

David Arquette Has Serious FOMO Over Scream 7
Last year’sScream VImarked the first time that, not only was Dewey missing from a Ghostface movie, but Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott too. Of course, the latter passed on the film because of a contract dispute, with the movie writing out Campbell’s character. But all that changes with Scream 7, which comes as a result of those contract negotiations being reopened and concluded to the actor’s liking.
Neve Campbell Reveals Scream 7’s Delayed Filming Start Window
Scream 7 has been in a state of limbo recently, but things seem to be finally moving forward on the troubled production.
But, it wasn’t an easy time getting here.First, Melissa Barrera was fired. Then, Jenna Ortega’s departure was announced, as was the departure of director Christopher Landon. Considering the writer of the masterful first and second films (as well as the fun fourth), Kevin Williamson, has now stepped in to helm, there’s good reason to be excited for the slasher sequel. But, of course, the real star (outside of Ghostface) is Sid, who fans missed in the sixth outing.Responding to the new cast and director announcements, as well as his lack of role in the film, Arquette said:

“There’s extreme FOMO. I’m really excited to see what Kevin does since he wrote the first one and he’s such a great filmmaker and artist and writer. How he understands that world, it’ll be really interesting to see his take on it [as director] and bringing the whole original crew back together, it is a very FOMO moment.”
The good news is that the actor has now “accepted” his character’s death. And, given the fact that he likes to “remember the good times,” it sounds like he has a positive attitude about leaving the series after all these years.

Scream 7is expected to be released in 2025.
