During the late 1990s, viewers witnessed the release of the hit comedy seriesThat ’70s Show. The show, which is still a hit long after its release, revolved around a group of friends living in the suburbs of Wisconsin and dealing with early adulthood. Twenty-five years later, Netflix released a spinoff series, this time taking place in the 1990s and released in 2023.
That ’90s Showtakes place in the same house in Wisconsin and features most of the same cast from the original show, with their children as the main characters this time. When Eric, Donna, and their daughter Leia visit Red and Kitty’s house, Leia decides to spend the summer there. The show revolves around Leia and her friends in a similar premise to the original series.
Still Watching Netflix, a channel operated by Netflix UK, posted a behind-the-scenesThat ’90s Showset tour this weekend. The tour shows the audience more of the set from the cast members. Callie Haverda, who plays Leia, and Maxwell Acee Donovan (Nate) start the tour in the iconic basement of Red and Kitty Forman’s house. The basement looks similar to how it was on the original show, with a few minor adjustments here and there. For example, the couch in the living room inThat ’70s Showis now in the basement, along with Red’s armchair. Donovan jokes about how he might nap on the couch between takes because of how comfortable it is. The tour continues to the original show’s famous driveway and garage area, with Sam Morelos (Nikki) and Mace Coronel (Jay) showing the audience around. They show the viewers behind-the-scenes things like the studio lights in the driveway, pointing out how the lights are controlled depending on whether the scene is during day or night. They also show the viewers where the live audience is seated, facing the garage.
Next, Ashley Aufderheide (Gwen) shows viewers her character’s room on the show. This is one of the places on the show that the audience had not seen in the original series. Gwen, one of Leia’s friends, is confident and helps Leia get outside her comfort zone, which is very much shown in the character’s room and outfits. Aufderheide continues to speak about how she loves her character’s wardrobe and room and how the cast agrees that Gwen has an excellent style. Reyn Doi (Ozzie) then takes over to show the audience the famous living room in the original show; He mentions how he was sitting on the living room couch when he came out as gay to Kitty. Doi also gives a mini-tour of some framed pictures of the original show. Finally, back to Coronel and Morelos, we see the kitchen from the original show, where Morelos counts thirteen owl items and jokes about it with Coronel. Doi and Aufderheide then show the viewers some details of Red and Kitty’s bedroom. In the end, Morelos points out the attention to detail in the set.

Original Cast Members Reunite
Co-creators of the original show, Bonnie Turner and Terry Turner, are also the creators of the new spinoff. As for the cast, Red, and Kitty, played by Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp, respectively, are a big part of the show since it takes place in their iconic home. Topher Grace (Eric) and Laura Prepon (Donna) appear several times throughout the season while they visit their daughter Leia and their parents. Ashton Kutcher (Kelso) and Mila Kunis (Jackie) also appear in the first episode to see the Foremans. Wilmer Valderrama (Fez) comes in during the second episode as the owner of a salon chain called “Chez Fez.”
Danny Masterson, who playedSteven Hyde, did not make an appearanceand was not mentioned throughout the season due to the actor’s legal troubles outside the show—leavingThat ’90s Showto feature all main characters but one. The show is now streaming on Netflix with ten episodes in its first season.
