Fans went crazy when Marvel Studios announced thatWillem Dafoewould be one of the returning villains that would be featured inSpider-Man: No Way Home. But they would have gone even crazier if he had worn one of the suits it was design of the character before the release of the movie.
Dafoe made his debut in theSpider-Manuniverse back in 2002 thanks to Sam Raimi, playing the iconic Norman Osborn, who would eventually turn into one of the most popular enemies from the friendly neighbor. When theMCUdecided to reunite Tom Holland’s version of the hero with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s in order to face a group of villains together, the Green Goblin could not be missing, but he could have been wearing a very different suit.

The Direct has published an imagefromSpider-Man: No Way Home - The Art of the Movie, which shows Dafoe’s character wearing a suit that mixes the Green Goblin’s armor with Iron Man’s Mark VI armor, which was first seen in the second movie starring Robert Downey Jr:
The book also has another version of the suit, with the colors matching the Green Goblin’s classic look:

Norman Osborn has worn the Iron Man suit in the comics, since he became Iron Man Patriot for a short period of time.

Could Willem Dafoe Return as the Green Goblin?
Now that theMCUhas opened the door to multiple realities when introducing the concept of the multiverse, almost every character that has appeared in any project related to Marvel Comics has a chance of returning. With Willem Dafoe being one of the most acclaimed actors in Hollywood, and his Marvel character being so popular, the possibilities of seeing him again are high.
But the Green Goblin could also return as a part of another franchise. TheSpider-Versesaga from Sony Pictures has already teased connections with theMCU, so including references to the original Spider-Man trilogy would be a good way to connect the whole universe related to the character, and Willem Dafoe’s Osborn would definitely be a good choice to do that since he’s so beloved by the fans.
Rumors about a fourthSpider-Manmovie directed by Sam Raimi with Tobey Maguire returning as Peter Parker have been around for a long time, and if it ever gets made, the Green Goblin could still appear, although it wouldn’t be played by Dafoe since Norman Osborn died. So someone else should take his mantle.
With or Without the Green Goblin, the future of the manySpider-Manfranchises is looking bright. While Tom Holland is set to return as Peter Parker in a fourth film, Miles Morales will also be back in the third and final installment from theSpider-Versesaga. The Sony Pictures franchise based on characters from theSpider-Manuniverse will also keep growing with the release ofKraven the Hunter,Madame Web,Venom 3and many other projects.
