Earlier today, directorJ.J. Abramsdelivered the bad news that there will be no trailer, clips or any behind-the-scenes footage fromStar Wars: The Force Awakensat the D23 Convention in Anaheim, California this weekend. Thankfully, we have some good news on theStar Warsfront, with Stitch Kingdom debuting two new photos from this highly-anticipated sci-fi adventure. The new images feature a massive gathering of The First Order Stormtroopers, along with these enemies coming under attack, presumably from Rebel forces.
There still isn’t much we know about the history of the First Order, but it seems that this organization is based in principle on the foundations of the Galactic Empire. TheStormtroopersandTIE Fightersyou see in these photos are certainly reminiscent of the Empire’s soldiers and vehicles. This evil entity seemingly rose out of the ashes of the Galactic Empire, with aFirst Ordertoy description from Comic-Con revealing that these Stormtroopers were spread out across the galaxy when the Empire fell, and the rise of the First Order will usher in a “new era of ruthless brutality.”
While it isn’t clear in this first photo, there is a figure seen addressing these First Order Stormtroopers, who may very well beDomhnall Gleeson’s General Hux, but we don’t know for sure since his back is turned to the camera. We also briefly saw this scene at the beginning of a newinternational TV spotthat featured just a few select seconds of new footage. While we wait for the new trailer that is supposed to debut sometime this fall, these new photos will have to suffice, at least until another international TV spot surfaces.
Domhnall Gleeson’s General Hux is just one part of the villainous contingent inStar Wars: The Force Awakens, alongsideAdam Driveras the villainousKylo Ren,Gwendoline Christieas Captain Phasma andAndy Serkisas Supreme Leader Snoke.John Boyega,Daisy RidleyandOscar Isaacstar as new heroes Finn, Rey and Poe Dameron. Original trilogy starsHarrison Ford(Han Solo),Mark Hamill(Luke Skywalker) andCarrie Fisher(Princess Leia) also return to reprise their roles whenStar Wars: The Force Awakenshits theaters on December 18.
