We are just weeks away from the release of a brand newStar Warsmovie and Disney is really starting to get the hype train in full motion. During their Disney Thanksgiving Day Holiday Celebration, they offered us a brand new, exclusive look atRogue One: A Star Wars Story. If you weren’t already excited enough, this should certainly help.

The special aired onABCand is intended to be a new holiday tradition for Disney. Since Disney now ownsStar Wars, we can safely assume a galaxy far far away will be part of this Disney Holiday Celebration every year as well. It certainly was this year, and now we have some new footage and an even better look atStar Wars: Rogue One, officially titledRogue One: A Star Wars Story, the very firstStar Warsspinoff movie ever.

Prequel isn’t exactly a word that mostStar Warsfans are fond of, which is probably why Disney isn’t using it when talking about this movie. ButRogue One: A Star Wars Storyis a prequel movie that takes place in the time between the events ofStar Wars: Revenge of the SithandStar Wars: A New Hope, but it definitely seems like a far cry from theGeorge Lucasprequel trilogy. The movie tells the story of how the Rebels got their hands on the plans for the Empire’s planet-destroying weapon, theDeath Star, a story that was originally teased in the opening crawl of the originalStar Warsin 1977. The band of Rebels tasked with stealing the plans is being led byJyn Erso, who is being played byFelicity Jones. She is accompanied by a mixed bag of rag-tag Rebels who are trying to secure the plans so that the Rebel Alliance can destroy the Empire’s new weapon.

One thing thatRogue Onewill have going for it thatStar Wars: The Force Awakensdidn’t is the presence of Darth Vader, arguably the greatest movie villain of all time. Because of the placement of the movie within theStar Warstimeline, directorGareth Edwardswas able to make use of the famed Sith Lord. Keep in mind, this is a period of time beforeStar Wars: A New Hope, so we have really never seen Darth Vader during this time in aStar Warsmovie before. Not only that, butJames Earl Jonesreturned to once again provide the voice of Darth Vader. With the villain being an increasingly prominent focus of the marketing material, that may help propel the movie to something truly special.
