Ruby Rose’s sudden departure from CW’sBatwomancame as quite the shock. Beatriz is known for her role as thestoic detective Rosa Diazon NBC’s critically-acclaimed cop-based comedyBrooklyn Nine-Nine. Alongside this, the actor has also done plenty of voice work, including such hit animated shows asBoJack Horseman,Bob’s Burgers,Family Guy, andDucktales. She clearly has a real enthusiasm for the role, even responding to a fan on social media where she claimed she had “Legit dyed my hair red last month”. Whilst the recasting ofBatwomanremains unsolved, Beatriz wants the role, and frankly, the CW would be fools for not giving it to her.Though the reasons behindRuby Rose’s departurefrom the show are still somewhat unknown, reports have suggested that it was a mutual decision between both parties, and have both since made statements, with Rose saying “I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” she announced.

The CW, Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions added in a statement that “Warner Bros. The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we – along with the show’s talented creative team – look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”
Batwomanfirst premiered on The CW in October of 2019 and showed a Gotham City in which Batman/Bruce Wayne has left, leaving his cousin Kate Kane to take the mantle of Gotham’s savior. Originally, season 2 was planned for a fall debut, but, due to production shutdown, the CW has had to push the majority of its programming to 2021.
