Although most people have now moved on from this year’sAcademy Awardsceremony, it seems that former PresidentDonald Trumpis not one of them, as he continued to berate host and late night starJimmy Kimmel. However, Trump’s rambling rant on his Truth Social platform not only seemed to create its own narrative from several different events of the night, but saw talk show hosts uniting against him. The post spurred Kimmel to suggest that he may actually host the 2025 Academy Awards, despite previously doubting that would, and also sawThe Late Show’s Stephen Colbertcoming out in support of Kimmel.

Never one to shy away from expressing his opinion – even when caught in the middle of a legal battle that should be getting his undivided attention – Trump took to Truth Social to share the following error-filled rant.

Jimmy Kimmel presenting the 96th Academy Awards

“Stupid Jimmy Kimmel, who still hasn’t recovered from his horrendous performance and big ratings drop as Host of The Academy Awards, especially when he showed he suffered from TDS, commonly known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, to the entire World by reading on air my TRUTH about how bad a job he was doing that night, right before he stumbled through announcing the biggest award of all, “Picture of the Year.” It was a CLASSIC CHOKE, one of the biggest ever in show business, and to top it off, he forgot to say the famous and mandatory line, “AND THE WINNER IS.” Instead he stammered around as he opened the envelope. Supposedly his wife, and even management, begged him not to do it, “DON’T READ HIS TRUTH, JIMMY, PLEASE DON’T DO THIS,” they said. He was made to look like a FOOL, which he is, and at the same time go down in Television History as the WORST HOST EVER OF THE ONCE VAUNTED ACADEMY AWARDS!”

Jimmy Kimmel Stirred Trump’s Pot on X/Twitter

Never one to miss an opportunity himself, Kimmel wasted no time in sharing Trump’s post, and calling out his muddled interpretation of Oscar night events, which included him seeming to confuse Kimmel with Al Pacino – who actually presented the Best Picture Award.

Responding to the post, Kimmel noted:

In fairness to our former President, many stable geniuses confuse me with Al Pacino…

He followed this up by sharing a post from the Biden campaign’s X account, which took the free election-year shot at Trump writing, “A feeble and confused Trump posts an error-riddled rant falsely claiming that Jimmy Kimmel presented Best Picture (or, as he describes, “Picture of the Year”) at the Oscars.”

Stephen Colbert on The Late Show

The beef between Trump and Kimmel began when the former shared his thoughts on Truth Social that Kimmel was the worst ever host of the Oscars ceremony, and that the event itself had become a joke.Kimmel read out Trump’s criticism on airtowards the end of the broadcast, despite being advised against it by staff and others. The moment ended up becoming one of the biggest viral videos of the night, along with that ofMichael Keaton sharing a Batman moment with Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Kimmel further doubled down by discussing it on Jimmy Kimmel live, where he noted that despite being originally doubtful about returning to host the Oscars next year, it is something he now might consider.

“I don’t know. That must be why they asked me to host the show again next year. Which I wasn’t planning to do but now I might. Maybe – you know what – maybe you may watch on the TV in the rec room at Riker’s with all the guys.”

Stephen Colbert Spoke Out in Defense of Kimmel With a Will Smith Slap Reference

Donald Trump always said he wanted to unite people, and his new post certainly did that. Soon after Trump’s tirade,The Late Show’sStephen Colbert stepped up to take a shot at the statement with his own little in-joke reference to the infamousOscars slapping of Chris Rock by Will Smith. He said:

“You keep my friend Jimmy Kimmel’s name out of your weird little wet mouth, OK? I’m mad. Jimmy Kimmel is my podcast brother from Strike Force Five. And I have vowed to defend him until my death or until the next ad for Mint Mobile. And for the record, sir, Jimmy did an incredible job as host. Oscar viewership was up 4%. That’s right. This year, four more people watched.”

Colbert didn’t end there either. In a parting shot, he made note that Trump seemed to have his priorities in the wrong order.

That’s right, in the middle of a presidential campaign and countless federal indictments, he’s obsessed with the Academy Awards from five weeks ago.
