Based on the hugely popular video game franchise and featuring the beloved Nintendo characters,The Super Mario Bros. Moviewill follow the iconic plumber as he travels to Toad town and embarks on an adventure through an underground labyrinth with his brother, Luigi, trying to save a captured princess.

We have seen snippets of Mario hitting the Rainbow Road in the recent trailers, with Chris Pratt even delivering an iconic “Wahoo!” as he does so. The track is infamous amongMario Kartfans for its difficulty and lack of a rail or barrier. Meaning that any faulty turn can lead to you falling off the edge and plunging into oblivion. It’s not yet known how the Rainbow Road will play into the plot ofThe Super Mario Bros. Movie, but it is sure to be just one of many Easter eggs for fans to look and listen out for.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie Will Land in Theaters in April
Directed by Aaron Horvath (The Drawn Together Movie: The Movie!) and Michael Jelenic (Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League), who together brought audiences the acclaimed animated outingTeen Titans Go!to the Movies back in 2018, and from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel,The Super Mario Bros. Movieis all set to feature a stellar ensemble cast of voices.
Leading the gang isGuardians of the GalaxyandThe Lego Moviestar Chris Pratt as Mario, withIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphiaand fellowThe Lego Moviestar Charlie Day as his plumber brother, Luigi. The casting of Pratt has been controversial, with audiences still wondering how exactly the actor will create the beloved voice of the Italian plumber. And while public reactions to footage from the movie have so far been largely favorable, Pratt’s performance still has a giant question mark hanging over it.
For his part, Pratt has assured fans thathe will do the character justice. “Y’all don’t even know what you’re about to see!!! There’s not a bigger Mario fan than myself. 10 year old me would flip my turtle if I knew I’d grow up to voice this character,” he said of taking on the role. “I’m so honored to be Mario and carry on the legacy of bringing joy to the world through Miyamoto-San’s character. Everyone is fantastic in the film. The trailers are great but you ain’t seen nothin yet!!!”
The rest of the cast includes the likes of Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike. Additionally, Charles Martinet, who has provided the voice of Mario throughout the franchise for many years, has been confirmed to feature in an undisclosed cameo.
The Super Mario Bros. Movieis scheduled for release in the United States on Apr. 7.
