The summer ofSupermanis now upon us, with audiences already looking up en masse if the box office results are anything to go by. Smashing together the introduction of a new Man of Steel with the introduction of a new DC cinematic universe, the DCU outing contains a few crowd-pleasing comic book cameos that were somehow kept pretty secret. Until now, that is, as we finally have our first look atSuperman’sbiggest cameo…
Shared to X/Twitter by Discussing Film, this new behind-the-scenes shot fromSupermanreveals our first look atHouse of the DragonstarMilly Alcockas Supergirl, with the character set to lead her own adventure next year. The image reveals our first detailed look at Supergirl’s costume, which boasts the same “Kingdom Come”-inspired symbol as the Man of Steel. Much like the rest of theSupermancast, Alcock looks cut straight from the comics, with audiences getting their first hint at whatSupergirlwill be like in this newly emerging franchise.

Drunk and cranky, Supergirl is Kal-El’s cousin Kara Zor-El, also from Kypton, and features at the end ofSupermanwhen she returns to pick up her best boy, Krypto. Not especially grateful for her cousin’s help in fostering the canine agent of chaos, Supergirl is clearly going through some personal issues, which many have now speculated could be connected tothe major twist to Superman’s origins. For now, we will have to wait until next year to see whether this has anything to do with Supergirl’s drunken state or not.

‘Supergirl’ Is Due to Fly Into Theaters on August 12, 2025
Supergirlwill be the second big screen outing for the DCU, with the reboot directed by Craig Gillespie ofI, TonyaandCruellafame, with a script written by Ana Nogueira. The DC outing stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl alongside Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, Matthias Schoenaerts as the villainous Krem, David Krumholtz as Supergirl’s father, Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Supergirl’s mother, Alura In-Zeand Jason Momoa as Lobo, with Krypto also set to feature.
Supergirlis expected to follow a similar path to the comic book arc on which it’s based, Tom King’s “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” which finds the title character heading off into the far reaches of the universe on a mission of revenge. Coming as part of theDCU’sChapter 1: Gods and Monsters, Supergirl is due to be released on July 10, 2025.

Superman, meanwhile, has gotten the DCU off to a flying start. Written, directed, and co-produced byJames Gunn(theGuardians of the Galaxyfranchise), and starring David Corenswet (Twisters, Hollywood) in the iconic role of Superman/Clark Kent alongside Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult (theX-Menmovies,Nosferatu) as Lex Luthor,Supermanhas reached dizzying heights with both critics and audiences alike, and iscurrently soaring at the box office. All of which should ensure that Gunn and DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran will get to continue their plans for the cinematic world of DC.
