The movie is being helmed byA Bigger SplashdirectorLuca Guadagnino, who has wanted to re-imagine the horror classic for quite some time.
Fans ofChloe Moretzmay find her attachment to theSuspiria remakea bit surprising. Not because it is at all shocking to see her in something with more of an adult theme, but because she recently announced that she was clearing all of the movies from her slate. Less than a month ago she talked with The Hollywood Reporter, saying that she broke free from all of her projects because she wanted to focus on herself. She dropped out of high-profile projects like the non-Disney live-action remake ofThe Little Mermaidcoming from Universal and Working Pictures. Here is what she had to say about it at the time.
“So I pulled the plug on all my movies because I want to reassess who I am and find myself within my roles again. I’m realizing that I can slow down.”
Apparently slowing down didn’t mean quitting entirely for any length of time. In any case, hercastingseems to be a good fit given the plot ofSuspiria. For those who may not be familiar, the original movie centers around a young ballet dancer who enters into a very prestigious dance academy in Germany. A series of very bloody murders ensues and reveals a much more dark and supernatural story taking place behind the scenes. It hasn’t been confirmed whoChloe Moretzis playing, but it doesn’t seem at all unlikely that she will be playing the Suzy Banyon role, which was originally portrayed byJessica Harper.
Suspiriawas originally released in 1977 and was directed by Italian filmmakerDario Argento. It is one of the most praised horror movies of all-time, even though it didn’t make much of an impact at the box office when it was initially released. The movie currently holds a very impressive 93 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.David Kajganichis working on the script for the remake ofSuspiria.
