Based on the popular book series written by Sherryl Woods of the same title, Netflix’s romantic dramaSweet Magnoliastells the story of three South Carolina women juggling their friendship, love, and career as they reach new milestones in their lives in a small town named Serenity. The show so far has three seasons, all available on Netflix.
With the show’s latest season ending, there hasn’t been any news of whether the show will have a Season 4. So,Sweet Magnoliasfans have to hold their breath and wait for the news.
The three women, Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Helen Decatur (Heather Headley), and Dana Sue Sullivan (Brooke Elliott), have been best friends since childhood, and now closer than ever, they face what life throws their way alongside each other. Their seemingly unbreakable bond eventually meets its big hurdle when the trio clashes with each other.
Although their relationship gets amended, many unanswered mysteries remain in the town of Serenity after the show’s latest season, season three, ended. Here are the ten questions that are still hovering in the air with the end ofSweet MagnoliasSeason 3.
10Is Paula Coming Back to Serenity?
One of several characters who departed from Serenity in Season 3 is Maddie’s mother, Paula Vreeland. After going through her journey of finding happiness and contentment, she decides to move in with Jimmy, a close friend who comes occasionally to support her art.
After having sparks fly between the two, Paula accepts Jimmy’s invitation to stay with him and paint. She tells Maddie about her decision to leave, and Maddie cannot be more supportive. Her leaving begs the question if Paula is returning to town, but considering her decision to leave is based on positive vibes, she will most likely return. However, until she does, we never know.
9What Happens to Bill?
Another character that joins the Serenity leaving party is Maddie’s ex-husband, Bill Townsend. However, unlike Paula, Bill leaves Serenity with a more grim vibe. Havingbeen a bad father, husband, and person in general, he has now finally realized that he needs to work on himself to become a better individual.
Using his children as his motivation, he leaves Serenity; who knows for how long or if it is for good. No one can even be sure if Bill is really going to work on himself, seeing the many other instances in which he failed. For now, Bill Townsend is out of Serenity, which is probably a breath of fresh air for the townspeople. Will he really do the hard work? Will he return to Serenity? We’ll have to wait and see.
8Does Kathy Have More Evil Plans?
One red flag often calls for another, making the perfect pair. Kathy, the sister-in-law of Dana Sue and the sister of Ronnie, leaves Serenity with a bang. After her failed evil attempts at ruining the harmony of Serenity, she decides to leave town after announcing that she is dating a walking red flag, Bill Townsend.

Her performance in wreaking havoc in Serenity surely leaves an impact on the people, especially Dana Sue and Ronnie. Trashing kitchens, slashing tires — all typical crazy lady behavior, she did it all. Ronnie, tired of her evil actions, gives her a bunch of money just for her to stop. She takes the money and leaves town with her lover, Bill.
Has she quenched her thirst for violence and finally left for good? We surely hope so. But, one’s thirst for violence can reawake at any moment.
7Will There Be Justice for the People of Serenity?
The long-run issue with the (now former) mayor of Serenity, Mayor Trent, and his wife, Mary Lewis, still hasn’t been resolved, at least until the end of Season 3. After quarreling and investigating a bunch, the mayor decides to resign and leave town immediately.
The injustice from the power couple has causeda handful of businesses to struggle. Now, when their abuse of power is out in the open, they conveniently leave town. Although the investigation isn’t out of the picture, it still hasn’t given any answers to the trio and the people of Serenity.
Will the answers ever surface or not? The people of Serenity and the viewers can only wait.
6What Will Happen to Noreen and Isaac?
Although the horrible man that Bill Townsend is has left Serenity, his wrongdoings still leave behind a hefty scar. Isaac Downey, originally came to town to look for his family, has grown fond of the town, and decides to stay there. He makes a great friend and roommate with Noreen Fitzgibbons, who recently had a baby.
This relationship becomes very awkward when Isaac learns that his father is none other than Bill, who is also the father of Noreen’s baby. The two have a great connection with each other, and it all has been going great. Isaac is terrified at heart, wondering how long he can keep this secret from Noreen.
What happens when he does tell Noreen? It will surely change everything, and now we can only wait for the ticking bomb to go off.
5What’s In Store for Maddie and Dana Sue?
Both ladies have grown so much, especially in the third season. Maddie has become stronger and is in a better place in general. The same can be said for Dana Sue. She has entered a warm relationship with Ronnie, and her business is doing very well, as is the foundation. Both Maddie and Dana Sue have achieved everything they wanted in the show’s third season.

This happy reality begs the question of whether they will have more to go on as characters. Unlike other characters, they seem to be at the peak of their lives in Serenity. What further adventure will they jump on if the show returns with a new season? Will they grow as much or even more than they have in the third season?
4Will Maddie and Cal Tie the Knot?
It has been proven obvious that Cal is very serious about his romantic relationship with Maddie, and so is she. They both have been working on themselves to become better partners for each other — Cal about his anger issues and Maddie about finding her true self after coming out of a hellish marriage.
Thecouple’s romantic dynamicgrows better and better, and they are in such a great place, personally and as a couple. Cal has shown his intention of taking things further with Maddie when he gets disappointed that Maddie didn’t catch the bouquet. It seems like only good things are in store for the couple, and hopefully, they too will have a happy day by tying the knot.
3What Will Become of Annie and Ty’s Relationship?
Thelifelong friendship(for now) between Dana Sue’s daughter Annie and Maddie’s son Ty has been going in circles with no ending in sight. However, this might change when Annie finally breaks up with her boyfriend Jackson at the end of Season 3, and Ty is there to comfort her.
Now that Annie is single and Ty realizes (kind of) that he has feelings for her, they are already one step closer to becoming a sweet teenage couple of Serenity. The most the show has given for their relationship is their holding hands — which may be lacking, but a win is a win. Hopefully, the two decide to go on the relationship boat and finally be with each other after episodes of pushing and pulling.
2What Happens to Helen and Erik?
Helen has gone to war with her love life in the show’s third season. After cutting off the serious relationship with Erik whenher old lover Ryanreturns and asks her to marry him, Helen realizes that she and Ryan are not meant to be together. Helen wants to stay in Serenity, but Ryan cannot put his mind to settle in one place forever.
This leaves Helen and Erik in a very awkward stage; they are no longer friends or lovers but still deeply care about one another. Although Helen is now a single woman, Erik isn’t, and he doesn’t want to be a man who doesn’t value loyalty. How they will fix their relationship is still a mystery, but the door is wide open for both of them.
1Who Will Be the Next Mayor of Serenity?
With Mayor Trent gone, the position must be filled as soon as possible. Many names have been proposed, but they have yet to come forward with certainty to run for the mayor. One name in particular, however, has a lot of support already. Peggy has proven to be very dedicated to Serenity when she helps the town’s case against their old mayor.
Having been born and raised in Serenity with a passion for helping people, Peggy is undoubtedly a strong contender for the position. Though Maddie also has done a lot to help improve the town, nothing has been said on her end to run for the position. Nothing is certain for now, but whoever fills the spot will certainly (and hopefully) be better than the old one.
