We already know that Thanos is going to be a force to be reckoned with whenInfinity Warhits theaters, but now we know we’ll get an indicator of why he is the way that he is, according to actor Josh Brolin. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has said that the very first 5 minutes ofInfinity Warwill show us the immense power ofThanosright off the bat. And now, Josh Brolin reveals that it’s not a good idea to underestimate the mind of Thanos as well.

Fans of Thanos will get to see some of thecharacter’s early yearson Titan as well as how the planet was destroyed and the motivations behind the villain’s current quest. Josh Brolin has previously hinted at his influences that he and the Russo Brothers channeled while crafting the character, but now he’s giving some insight into how Thanos ended up how he is. The Mad Titan is the black sheep of his family. Brolin explains.

“He’s different from his family. They’re allTitansand they all look similar, but he was born deformed. You see how he grew up, you see he was like the Quasimodo of this time, or if you’ve ever read Perfume (Patrick Süskind ’s 1985 novel about a serial killer who craves beautiful scenes but is disgusted by the smell of humanity), it’s a great parallel to Thanos. He stuck out. He was an anomaly. He was a freak. And that lent to this apparent insanity.”

Thanos is known for his immense power, butJosh Brolinsays that the villain has never got the credit he deserves for having super intelligence. Brolin even goes on to say that Thanos is the most intelligent character in the movie, which is saying a lot when you have the minds of Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, and Shuri in one place. However, Josh Brolin might be biased since he plays the character. He had this to say.

“You see this lughead and this guy who you pigeonhole right from the first cosmetic reaction to him. And what I see is this in this guy’s eyes. This super, super, super intelligence. There’s this constant contrasting thing about thisNeanderthalic lugheadwho’s way more intelligent than anybody else in the movie, by far.”

If it wasn’t already evident, the events inInfinity WarandAvengers 4are going to profoundly change the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the next phase. Kevin Feige has promised the deaths of some of the most beloved super heroes of all time, but it isn’t entirely clear exactly what else Thanos and his Black Order have in store for the future of the MCU. There’s going to be a lot more than death and destruction, that’s for sure.

Infinity Warwill hit theaters on April 27th, after getting bumped up a week by Marvel. The change has brought the fear of Thanos in real-life to other movies who have since moved their release dates to run away from the Mad Titan , like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’sRampage. The power of Thanos is real, which isn’t limited to his brute force. You can read more about what Josh Brolin had to say about the complexities of Thanos over atEntertainment Weekly.
