The Acolyte’s showrunner Leslye Headland has shot down one fan theory about the series. SinceThe Acolytepremiered on June 26, 2025, it has become one of the most discussed television series for positive and negative fan reactions. The series' mystery has led to a large amount of speculation regarding it, with fan theories popping up each week only to be answered or redefined with each new episode. From ties to Knights of the Old Republic to maybe includingDisney’s failedStar Warshotel,The Acolytehas generated a lot of fun fan theories that have engaged viewership week after week.

Ahead of the upcoming season, potentially the series finale, creator Leslye Headland has put the nail in the coffin on one particular fan theory regarding the villain, Qimir (Manny Jacinto). Headland toldNerdistthat Mae and Osha’s mother, Mother Koril (Margarita Levieva), is not Qimir’s master on the dark side of the Force. She did say, however, that ifThe Acolytereturns for season two, they will explore more of Mother Koril’s story, seemingly confirming she did not die inThe Acolyte’s seventh episode, “Choice.” Headland said:

“Oh, I can answer that. They do not know each other. But what I will say, as a tease, if we are able to explore this story more, her species will tell you a little bit about where she ends up.”

The Acolyte

Star Wars series that take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.

The Acolyte Might Tie Closely to the Rest of Star Wars

While that theory surrounding The Acolyte was shut down, plenty still persist. Due to both Episode 6 and Episode 7 ofThe Acolytefeaturing a bit of Kylo Ren’s theme music, many have speculated that Qimir might have ties to the Knights of Ren and is not actually a Sith Lord, meaning that Ki-Adi-Mundi’s belief that the Sith have been extinct for over a millennium would still remain true. If Qimir is a Sith, there is also the fan theory that he is not a Sith master but a Sith apprentice. He was training Mae to become his apprentice and take down his master, possibly either Darth Tenebrous or Darth Plagueis, setting the stage for Palpatine to become a Sith apprentice and leading to the events of the Skywalker Saga.

As for Mother Koril’s fate, it seems clear by Headland’s statement that she did not die and is still active in the galaxy. Her species is an Iridonian Zabrak, as opposed to one from the planet Dathomir, like Darth Maul or the Nightsisters. The Acolyteestablished the Nightsisters of Dathomir, who the Jedi know as a separate Force coven from the one that Mother Koril and Mother Aniseya were heads of. Yet given Headland’s statement, it is entirely possible Mother Koril will seek out theNightsisters on Dathomir, a group that has been explored in depth through Star Wars series likeClone Wars,Tales of the Empire, andAhsoka.

Star Wars Fans Are in Love With Their New Sith Lord Following The Acolyte’s Latest Episode

The Acolyte’s latest episode confirms what fans have guessed for a while, causing many to take to social media to express their love of the Dark Side.

Currently,The Acolytehas not been renewed for a second season. Despite attempts by a certain subset of theaudience to review bomb the series, sometimes before an episode airs, the series has done well for Disney+ as it hasgained high viewership numbers. The High Republic era ofStar Warsstill has plenty of stories to tell, but with Disney shifting priority to big-budget live-action feature films, it is unclear if the company has a place for another expensive Disney+ series as they already have commitments to second seasons ofAhsokaandAndor, along with Jude Law-starringSkeleton Crew. With one episode left, there certainly will be plenty of questions answered, but as is tradition with this franchise, possibly more teases for the future.
