The idea of someone being a full blown movie star is somewhat of an elusive thing these days. Frankly, there just aren’t that many of them left anymore. You haveTom Cruise,Leonardo DiCaprio,Dwayne Johnsonand of course,Will Smith. MaybeSmith’s star power isn’t what it once was, but withSuicide Squadlooking at a massive opening weekend, he should be right back on top. As it turns out, even big stars likeSmithare still prone to being star struck in the right situation, andSuicide SquadgaveWill Smithone of those freak out moments.
The actor recently appeared onThe Tonight ShowandJimmy Fallondiscussed the movie in detail with him.Fallongushed over the star power thatSmithconfidently and easily exudes inSuicide Squad, andSmithexplains how, for the most part, this was just another movie for him. However, the one thing that made him lose his cool a bit was when the Batmobile showed up, and whenBen Affleckwas on set as Batman.
“Suicide Squad is in theBatman world. It’s in theDC Comicsworld. You know, its cool, I’ve made a lot of movies, it’s all good. Ya know, it’s another movie? And The Batmobile came around the corner and i was like ‘Oh!’ ThenBen Affleckjumps out of the Batmobile…”
At that pointSmithreenacted himself losing his cool in the way only he could, which was pretty fun to see. He then continued, emphasizing how his fandom extended toAffleckas well saying “I was six years old. I was like ‘Ben can you sign this! Ben can you sign this?!'” It is really charming to see a movie star of that caliber still be able to find a moment to be just as excited about something as any other fan of these movies would be.
Will Smithis playing the character of Deadshot inSuicide Squad, who is sort of the leader of the gang of criminals that is tasked by a secret government agency with stopping an evil threat in the movie. We know thatBen Affleck’s Batman will be appearing in the movie, but we don’t know exactly how substantial his role will be. We also don’t know if he and Deadshot actually interact with one another, or if it was just some behind the scenes excitement between the two. From what we have seen in the trailers, it seems somewhat likely that Batman shows up in more of a flashback sequence featuringJared Leto’s Joker andMargot Robbie’sHarley Quinn. But that doesn’t mean Batfleck can’t show up elsewhere in the movie.
AsJimmy Fallonmentions in the clip,Suicide Squadis on track to become the biggest August opening of all-time at the box office, with tracking putting it well over $100 million. That is very good forSmith, who hasn’t had a blockbuster really take off in quite some time, even though he was once the most bankable movie star on the planet.Suicide Squadopens in theaters on August 5.
