When it comes to trailers, there are fans who always want to see more and fans who wish studios would show less. As we approach the premiere ofThe Book of Boba Fett,it seems that despite numerous trailers, clips and photos, we really haven’t seen anything yet as director and showrunner Robert Rodriguez has revealed that everything that has been shown so far only comes from the beginning of the pilot episode. The Book of Boba Fetthas become one of the onlyStar Warsreleases this year thanks to various delays on other projects, and following Fett’s appearance inThe Mandalorianfans have been chomping at the bit to see the bounty hunter back in action in his own spin-off series.

Robert Rodriguez has been promoting the upcoming series, and in an interview withThe Hollywood Reporterhe explained that they have only been able to use footage from the first half of the opening episode in marketing for one simple reason: anything more would contain spoilers. He explained:

The Book of Boba Fett

“We can’t use the second half of the first episode because it gives so much away.”

The return of Boba Fett inThe Mandalorianwas one of the surprises the second season of theStar Warsseries delivered. So far, the trailers for the series have been tightly focussed on Fett and Fennec Shane returning to Tatooine to take over the empire left open by the death of Jaba The Hutt, and attempting to find their place in the criminal underworld. There have also been somevery brief shots of Fett seemingly recovering after surviving the Sarlacc pit, where he was presumed to have died inReturn of The Jediover three decades ago, which were accompanied by Fett’s voice saying, “I am Boba Fett, left for dead on the sands of Tatooine.”

While the premiere of the series is still over a week away, there has already been talk of a second season with Rodriguez commenting, “If people really love it, I’m sure they’d want to make more.” Of course, that is what it comes down to. If the viewing numbers are what they are expected to be, then there is little doubt that Disney will be banging on Rodriguez’s door for another season, especially when so many otherStar Warsprojects have been falling by the wayside recently, including the movieRogue Squadronwhich is still in limbo after the alleged departure and return of director Patty Jenkins.

Rodriguez also revealed that it was Fett’s lack of backstory that drew him to the series in the first place, after by his own admission usually avoiding big name franchises. “I usually avoid premier properties — you’ll never be able to please everybody, it’s a losing game,” he said. “That changed with Boba because he was a character that was always underserved,” Rodriguez continued. “So it’s almost like starting with an original character. you’re able to kind of do anything you want, so long as you make him cool and don’t make him a buffoon.”

The Book of Boba Fettwill make its debut onDisney+on December 29th.
